HP really wasn't important to mages, because there were only two kinds of mages to begin with: sustained damage and burst damage. But in the end, both depended on mana. With the current team compositions, EDG's Karthus Q skill had low mana costs and restored mana on kills; JDG had Xerath, whose passive restored mana every dozen seconds or so. This was a kiting battle, and whoever could control the river fruit would have a greater advantage in bot lane.
