Responsibility to the Clan

Scyther's life was monotonous. Every day, aside from foraging for food, it did nothing but train.

As the newly appointed leader of its clan, Scyther knew full well that it was not yet strong enough to protect its clan's survival. It had to become stronger.

Scyther was accustomed to attacking with the scythes on its arms. Its naturally gifted physique made it exceptionally skilled at slashing moves.

Today, Scyther was once again carrying out its dull, routine slashing practice.

Until an unexpected visitor shattered Scyther's peaceful daily life.

"Scyther, come battle us!"

In Scyther's eyes, a helpless human and a Pokémon one rank weaker than itself challenging it was undoubtedly a reckless act born of courage without wisdom.

But it had not fought anyone today, so this human's request suited it perfectly.

Since this human was fairly pleasing to the eye, it decided not to finish him off after defeating him.

Having made up its mind, Scyther raised its arms, its two coldly gleaming scythe blades pointed directly at Su Hao and Carbink.

Seeing that Scyther had accepted the challenge, Su Hao immediately commanded Carbink to use its moves.

"Use Reflect, then use Harden!"

Since the power of this Scyther's moves was still unknown, Su Hao played it safe and had Carbink strengthen its defenses first.

Seeing Carbink begin to use its moves, Scyther did not simply stand there posing. With a light beat of its two pairs of wings, it swiftly flew toward Carbink.

A dazzling white light quickly gathered on the scythes of the rapidly approaching Scyther. It was Slash!

Watching Scyther rapidly close in, Carbink did not panic. After calmly completing its Reflect and Harden buffs, it did not rashly take an Elite Level Scyther's attack head-on. Instead, it independently used Ancient Power, condensing chunks of rock around itself and firing them at Scyther.

The Ancient Power tore through the air, arranged in a triangular formation that sealed off Scyther's path forward.

"Chamo!!!"

Its route blocked by Ancient Power, Scyther let out a roar. Its white-glowing scythes traced several flashes of blade light, slicing apart every piece of Ancient Power before it.

Seeing Scyther cut through all the Ancient Power, Su Hao gave his next order without speaking.

"Use Ancient Power once more to slow it down, then use Sharpen to boost your attack!"

"Na na!" Got it!

Carbink swiftly fired Ancient Power at Scyther again, then used Sharpen to strengthen itself during the moment Scyther was held back.

Having sliced through the Ancient Power again with Fury Swipes, Scyther became a streak of white light and used Quick Attack to accelerate once more, completely closing the distance to Carbink.

It was still Fury Swipes. Emerald Green light shimmered from Scyther's scythes as they slashed at Carbink.

"Take it, then use Knock Off!"

Scyther's stacked Fury Swipes were weakened by Reflect before striking Carbink fiercely.

Unfortunately, scythes capable of cutting through trees could only leave several deep white marks on Carbink after its defenses had been enhanced.

Scyther's Fury Swipes had indeed dealt effective damage to Carbink.

But it was not enough!

It was still far from defeating Carbink!

Bang! A heavy impact rang out.

After enduring the attack, Carbink condensed an enormous rock. Its Knock Off slammed fiercely into Scyther, which had just finished attacking and was preparing to retreat.

Struck by Knock Off, Scyther crashed to the ground like a kite with its string cut.

After being hit by a move with Four Times Weakness, Scyther could not even get back up for a while.

The weakened Scyther found it hard to believe that it, an Elite Level Pokémon, had been defeated like this by a Normal Level Pokémon and a human.

"Do you want to become our companion? I can guarantee that you'll become stronger."

Su Hao extended an invitation to Scyther.

Scyther met Su Hao's clear eyes, its heart beating unusually fast. In a rush of emotion, it nearly agreed at once, but several figures suddenly appeared in its mind—

By evening, after consecutively defeating several wild Pokémon, Carbink had reached Level 22.
