Background / History

Ogerpon was taken in by the residents of Mask Village, despite once being called an oni. The village was renowned for its mask-forging techniques, and all its residents contributed to creating her four treasured masks. She initially spent her days happily playing throughout the village with their gifts 785 786.

News of the masks attracted Greavard and three retainers. Unable to defeat a fully equipped Ogerpon directly, they posed as friendly visitors and poisoned the villagers’ food. After taking control of the residents, they used them as hostages and living shields, forcing Ogerpon to surrender every mask 786.

Before Greavard could control Ogerpon herself, an eruption of Terastal Energy created a force field around the village and mountain. The attackers were thrown against the barrier, the masks fell outside it, and Ogerpon was blown toward the mountaintop. There she discovered the Crystal Light Pool, whose energy repelled her enemies 786.

Ogerpon repeatedly attempted to rescue the villagers without her masks, nearly being captured several times. Meanwhile, Greavard forced the controlled residents to manufacture replacement masks in hopes of escaping. Their bodies eventually decayed into skeletons, but the compulsory work continued. Ogerpon’s wish changed from saving their lives to laying their remains to rest 786.

Personality

Ogerpon initially appears timid, lonely, and sensitive. Her long isolation leaves her unfamiliar with the outside world; her first flight delights her, while Groudon’s appearance terrifies her. Nevertheless, she silently resolves to defend Su Hao if Groudon attacks him 785 787 790.

Her inability to save Mask Village leaves her with intense guilt. Su Hao’s support helps her choose to confront her persecutors rather than remain trapped by those memories. Wearing the villagers’ masks becomes an expression of her resolve to punish those who desecrated their remains 786 792.

Among friends, Ogerpon is affectionate, playful, and eager to belong. She clumsily imitates Diancie’s demeanor during a discussion she does not understand, enjoys desserts, and later develops a strong liking for lively places. She can become angry when insulted, but apologizes after hurting Incineroar in their first spar 790 798 806 1025.

Her companions’ happiness matters more to her than battle opportunities. This outlook develops into the Heart of Protection, allowing her abilities to mutate around shielding others.
