I suddenly woke up at one in the morning yesterday. No matter how low I set the air conditioner, I couldn't sleep. I just couldn't sleep. My little cat was a little restless—climbing onto my head one moment, lying on top of me the next, then curling up at the foot of my bed. But every time, it would only lie there for a while before jumping down, then climbing back up again. I even cursed at it in my heart.

Then, around one thirty, I got up to go to the restroom and turned on the light. That was when I saw it throw up. Then its entire right front leg hung suspended in the air as it stood there looking at me.

I didn't know what that look in its eyes meant. Then it collapsed right in front of me. The entire right side of its body couldn't move.

I watched it drag itself along with the left half of its body that could still move, its right front leg bent as if it were broken. It shuffled across the floor with half its body, howling, staring at me the whole time, and struggling desperately to crawl toward me.

It was sick. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Its right front leg was paralyzed, every breath was difficult, and it couldn't be cured. It was basically the human equivalent of cancer.
