The clock in the bedroom was still chiming. The first minute after six in the evening had not yet ended, but the information pouring out of Number 1414 had already become overwhelming.
At a thought from Ji Li, the Black-clothed person folded the black umbrella and strode toward the bedroom.
Ji Li himself approached the television, its screen flickering with static as it continued transmitting Morse code.
Whoever was behind the Morse code had to be a hotel employee, and a relatively seasoned veteran at that. Otherwise, they would not have mastered this skill.
Ji Li knew the rooms of all eight known participants by heart, so this Mysterious Person had to be one of the two unknown participants.
With that question in mind, Ji Li first asked for the other person's identity.
As far as he was concerned, once the mission began, nothing on Old Yu Street could be trusted except the employees. Perhaps, under certain circumstances, even that identity could not be trusted.
Who are you?
Ji Li had trusted the instruction the other person had given him—"silence"—so he had not spoken at all. Instead, he tapped his cane against the floor, asking his question in Morse code as well.
The static on the television continued, but after his question, the "wah-wah" sound from its speakers changed rhythm.
This time, however, the rhythm was noticeably faster. Together with the flickering television screen, it filled the pitch-black room with an intense sense of pressure.
As Ji Li monitored the television's abnormalities and listened for the Mysterious Person's response, he began turning his head toward the bedroom.
The first minute was about to end.
