According to the original plan, the fourth stage of Misfortune would certainly have occurred to Xiao Qian Duyue. Once Misfortune expanded to its limit, she would become Fate.
But during this process, someone must have intervened and altered everything.
That person had to be exceptionally powerful, yet still unable to contend with the Great Ghost. They had come to take Xiao Qian away, but had been utterly incapable of resolving the Misfortune Event.
They had arrived at the University of Finance and Economics ahead of time and entered the still-immature Rose Chamber.
Before everything had reached this point, their choice had been to gouge out those Eye of Calamity and take only Xiao Qian Duyue away.
They had no way to break the perfect binding between the Eye of Calamity and the Misfortune Event. They could only completely sever Xiao Qian's connection to Misfortune.
Yet although they could not resolve everything themselves, they had left behind traces of their alterations, causing the outcome of the Misfortune Event to deviate.
Because of their involvement, the original candidate for Fate had changed from Xiao Qian to someone else—whoever entered the chamber would become Fate.
