In the brightly lit lobby of the Emergency Center, Wei Jiande sat on a hospital bed with his head lowered, smoking. Hearing those words, he inadvertently looked up.
Before him stood an ordinary figure in a white tracksuit. There was nothing remarkable about his build, temperament, or any other aspect.
Yet on the hospital's white wall ahead of him, a live feed was playing.
In the footage, a strange, lame man in black stood atop a massive machine. His shoulder-length hair hung loose, and his eyes were dull, as if he had not fully awakened—or perhaps suffered from some other ailment.
Surrounding him were the alluring back of a woman in red and more than a dozen stiffly crawling men.
The person who had spoken those first words was not in the footage. It was the man in the white tracksuit.
Wei Jiande did not know what those words meant, nor did he know that the first person to say them had not been the man before him.
He was equally in the dark about everything happening now.
Though it seemed that he, White Wolf, and the others were direct participants, everything had actually remained firmly in someone else's hands.
Although White Wolf's death had taken place far away from him, he had seen it clearly.
In fact, ever since arriving at the Emergency Center, he had been granted the right to watch everything happening in the main building.
Pulling the backup power switch and restoring power to the CT Room had not been his intention. The man before him had forced him to do all of it.
Only now did Wei Jiande finally understand that everyone from Branch No. 9 had been meant to be wiped out in
