The Rose Hotel had four floors, with fifteen rooms on each floor. Even filled to capacity, its sixty rooms would never hold more than a hundred people. As for the living people currently in the hotel, there were thirteen at most.
Yet in this room without a door, the enormous glass display case before him, enclosed by four floors and sixty rooms, held far more than a hundred.
Pitch-black walls beneath a darkened sky; crystal-clear display cases on a massive scale; lifelike corpses with their heads bowed and eyes lowered.
When these three things came together in such a spectacular arrangement before him, Ji Li felt a momentary, almost unreal bewilderment.
There were too many corpses. He even saw himself in display case 412, but he clearly had not switched to the ghost officer identity. There should not have been a Fake Person of him.
So many things remained too tangled to understand, even when laid out before his eyes.
Ji Li was so immersed in his thoughts that he almost forgot Mei Sheng was beside him.
Until, at some point, she left his side and walked farther away. She seemed to have made some significant discovery and kept waving at him.
Looking at Mei Sheng's pale silhouette, Ji Li's gaze slowly sharpened.
Mei Sheng stood in the only dark patch among the four walls of display cases. There was no light there, yet it gave off an even more compelling presence. The wisps of cool air were blowing from there, too.
If the glass display cases recreated the Rose Hotel on another level, then the reception area, a space that did not count as a room, seemed to have become a passage into another hidden room.
Of course, this room had no door either.
