He could be considered one of the most troublesome members of the Bount clan.
Sawado's doll, Baura, was a wooden whale with the power of space. It could swim through the ground as though it were the sea.
Once it burrowed underground, the earth became Baura's strongest defensive barrier.

Several centuries ago, their Bount clan had not even been worthy of a second glance from the Shinigami.
The Bount had been exterminated mainly because they had accepted the Quincies' protection and moved into the Quincies' village.
As a result, during the great war between the Shinigami and the Quincy, these Bount with spiritual pressure were naturally wiped out as potential Quincy allies.
Back then, before those Shinigami members, Sawado had been nothing more than a lamb awaiting slaughter.
