In those years, after Shennong had finished arranging the affairs of the tribe, he set out into the depths of the Primordial World's great mountains. Whenever he came across an unfamiliar plant, he struck it once with his divine whip to determine whether it was poisonous, then recorded its properties.
If a plant was poisonous, he consumed it to test the strength of its toxicity. Gradually, Shennong discovered that every poison possessed the attributes of the Five Elements. Some potent poisonous plants even contained multiple elemental forces, which was why their toxicity was so fierce.
Shennong observed whether each plant was cold, warm, neutral, or hot, and distinguished the roles of sovereign, minister, assistant, and envoy. Gradually, he learned to use them to counteract poison and treat illnesses.
Over the course of more than three hundred years, Shennong traveled throughout the East Victory Divine Continent, tasting nearly every plant and tree. He also wrote a book, The Shennong Pharmacopoeia.
This work explained the classification of medicines into three grades and the significance of their properties; the roles of sovereign, minister, assistant, and envoy, as well as their status and function in prescriptions; the harmony of yin and yang in medicines; the coordination of the seven emotions; the four natures and five flavors; whether medicines were poisonous; methods of gathering and processing them; methods of decoction; and the relationship between medicines and illnesses, among many other subjects.
When the work was completed, merit descended from Heaven onto Shennong, and his cultivation directly broke through to the level of a Grand Unity Golden Immortal.
