The Homeland Strategic Defense and Attack and Logistics Support Agency, abbreviated as S.H.I.E.L.D., was a special force established by the International Security Council to deal with all manner of strange incidents. Originally known as the Strategic Scientific Reserve, it had been a military organization founded during World War II by Chester Phillips, Howard Stark, Peggy Carter, and others. Its primary strategic purpose at the time had been to oppose the Hydra organization led by the Red Skull.
S.H.I.E.L.D.'s current director was Alexander Pierce.
Pierce also had another identity: he was a Hydra mole.
It sounded ironic, but that was the truth.
At that moment, a file on Li Congxin sat on Director Pierce's desk. Its contents were so detailed that Li Congxin himself would surely have been ashamed.
"Clark Li used to be an ordinary high school student, but he suddenly changed two months ago. It was as though he had become a different person. Both his personality and temperament became completely different from before. After two months of training, even his appearance underwent a drastic transformation."
Sitting in his office chair, Pierce recounted this with a grave expression.
A burly white man sat on the sofa by the wall. After reading Li Congxin's file, he asked in confusion, "It's an inspiring story, but I don't understand what makes him worthy of our attention. Do you want to recruit him into S.H.I.E.L.D., or..."
His words came to an abrupt halt. What followed went without saying; after all, certain words were not suitable to be spoken here.
"Of course I'm not interested in some high school student's inspiring story. What truly interests me is Hank Pym." Pierce paused slightly before continuing, "Now, this Clark Li has somehow gotten mixed up with Hank Pym. Hank Pym even approached him first."
The burly white man froze at those words. Li Congxin was not worth paying attention to, but Hank Pym was another matter.
However, he was better at reasoning with his fists. Scheming and plotting did not suit him, so he simply stopped considering the pros and cons and asked directly, "What do you want me to do?"
"Rumlow." Pierce said sternly, "I want you to pry some secrets about Hank Pym from his mouth. Bring Truth Serum or whatever. I won't demand how much you manage to get out of him. But there's one thing: under no circumstances can you expose S.H.I.E.L.D., much less our existence. Do you know what to do?"
The burly white man named Rumlow nodded. "Understood!"
As a science-fiction world, the Marvel universe was undoubtedly ruled by scientific knowledge.
Here, the amount of scientific knowledge one possessed was a complete measure of one's potential. Without one or two doctoral degrees, you would be too embarrassed even to greet people.
Putting aside old-timers from the last century like Captain America and the Winter Soldier, none of the modern-day superheroes had poor academic credentials.
Even the Hulk, whose specialty was tearing his clothes off and charging headfirst into fights, had seven doctoral degrees! Even Old Pi's puppet, Second-Generation Ant-Man Scott, had a master's degree!
Black Widow possessed top-tier espionage skills!
Thor looked like nothing more than a brute, but he was still impressive enough to teach astronomy to Jane Foster!
Little Spider was a top student!
Doctor Strange—just the word "Doctor" was enough to explain everything!
Counting them all up, the least educated among the Avengers seemed to be those two eagle-named underachievers, Hawkeye and Falcon. That was why they had the lowest presence.
Study math, physics, and chemistry well, and you could travel the world without fear—that was the Marvel world in a nutshell!
In this world, knowledge was like internal energy in a martial arts world. Without it, you could still become strong, but if you wanted to become a grandmaster, it was one of the indispensable prerequisites!
Understanding the value of knowledge, Li Congxin naturally studied with exceptional dedication. Aside from attending classes, exercising, practicing martial arts, and writing novels every day, studying Quantum Mechanics had also become an essential part of his life.
To that end, he had completely sacrificed all of his entertainment time.
Li Congxin's learning speed also greatly pleased Hank Pym. Whenever he explained something, Li Congxin could grasp it quickly and draw inferences from it. His rate of progress surpassed every genius Hank Pym had ever encountered!
Of course, this was mainly thanks to Aunt Janet, his tutor, giving him free supplementary lessons in his dreams every day. But not only did Hank Pym not know about this, even Li Congxin himself could not remember it after waking up. He could only silently enjoy the benefits of this double education without understanding the reason behind it.
Because of this, he had even begun narcissistically wondering whether he was truly a genius in the field of the Quantum Realm.
October 5th, Monday.
"Actually, I still think there are some things I should tell Pym Uncle." After another one of Old Pi's lessons ended, Li Congxin suddenly said, "Although I feel these things may have nothing to do with Aunt Janet, and I don't even know whether it's useful to say them, keeping them bottled up inside still makes me feel uncomfortable."
Old Pi was taken aback and instinctively pressed, "What is it?"
"Some fragmented images I saw in the Quantum Realm."
Old Pi's body shook. "Be more specific."
Li Congxin nodded. Wearing a thoughtful expression, he said, "These past few days, I've vaguely remembered seeing some fragmented images of the future while I was in the Quantum Realm."
After careful deliberation, Li Congxin had finally decided to start playing the mystic. After all, if he wanted to get his hands on certain things, he would need Old Pi's help. There was simply no way he could accomplish it himself in the short term.
"For example, Captain America will be found more than ten years from now. He's actually been alive all along, only frozen in ice. In the fragments of my memory, the people responsible for excavating Captain America seemed to say things like, 'It was discovered by several Russian oil workers,' and, 'The terrain here changes every day.' Hmm... that's probably all I remember about Captain America."
Old Pi's expression had turned serious. "In other words, there are other memories?"
Li Congxin nodded slightly and continued, "Besides that, there was also a powerful extraterrestrial life-form that once came to Earth and left behind a seed capable of devouring the entire planet. That seed will erupt in 2017, but the crisis is ultimately stopped. Just as the seed erupts, that powerful alien life-form is killed by his son and a group of others."
By the time Li Congxin described the plot of Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Old Pi's expression had become utterly grave.
Although the crisis had been resolved in the end, as a superhero, he would not gamble Earth's fate on infighting among extraterrestrial beings. "Do you know any more detailed information about this?"
Thanks to reader Monk VS Daoist for the 100 Qidian Coins reward.
As an aside, your name reminded me of a short martial arts novel. It contained years of grudges between three major sects, shattered conventional ethics, and had a gripping plot with the air of a bloody storm about to break. It also left countless mysteries and was full of anticipation.
The entire novel went: "Bald donkey, you dare fight this poor Daoist over the abbess!" 凸(艹皿艹)
