"Grrr... grrr... grrr..."
The strange scraping sounds from underground came from all over the town, as if some enormous burrowing creature were rapidly digging tunnels beneath the earth. The townspeople and soldiers, caught completely unprepared, heard the sounds coming from beneath their feet and could only look around in confusion at first.
Then the thick stone pavement of the streets suddenly boomed. Gravel and dirt flew everywhere, and enormous tentacles burst through the ground!
The same scene unfolded in every corner of the town. Countless massive underground tentacles seemed to sense that the mortals here were preparing to flee, and launched a surprise attack on the town. The earth, which should have been solid and heavy, split open in every direction. Terrifying black monsters drilled out through the cracks with thunderous roars. The resistance of most ordinary people barely affected them. Cries rang throughout Leighton Town as people fled in all directions and screamed in pain from their injuries, mixed with the continuous booming of splitting earth and collapsing buildings. The sturdy stone houses and walls had been designed to withstand heretics, but against the oldest and most powerful creatures on the planet, they were as fragile as paper. As more and more underground tentacles emerged, countless houses began to collapse, while even the town walls shook violently and shed dirt and stones with a clatter. After emerging from the ground, many tentacles "cleverly" found the nearest buildings. Rather than attack the people, they wrapped around the buildings' outer walls and supports, violently shaking and piercing them. It seemed they knew that killing the people inside a house was far more efficient than attacking isolated individuals in the streets.
Or perhaps they were simply attacking the nearest targets. To these furious ancient creatures, everything made by humans deserved to die!
