Hao Ren and his group had all come to this city for the first time. Even Izax, who had loved wandering everywhere back in the day, had never actually set foot in Cadessa City—he had come to the Cadheus plane to sightsee, but something had delayed him. So everything in the city felt fresh to them. Even though they remembered they had business to attend to, they still couldn't help stopping frequently to take in the exotic sights. After entering the city, they spent the whole way sightseeing.
They had no plans to enter the inner city that day, so they began looking for a suitable inn in the outer city. Based on common experience, such inns should be located around the city's main roads. Thus, the group followed the main avenue, eventually arriving naturally at the square at its end.
It was a semicircular square paved with neat white stone tiles. Decorative lampposts and stone carvings stood around it. Everything was brand-new, clearly built only after the end of the Ten Year War.
The most eye-catching thing in the square was a tall statue. Drawn to it, the group stopped in front of it.
Unlike the hero statues they had seen elsewhere, the subject of this statue was clearly an ordinary soldier. He wore no cape or insignia symbolizing an officer's rank, only a plain suit of soldier's armor. His body leaned forward, one leg raised in midair, his longsword pointing ahead. He seemed to be leaping out of a trench to attack the enemy. The statue was lifelike, radiating an unforgettable force—an unstoppable charge.
