Shaqila and Soma both looked baffled. The latter froze for a moment before speaking. "Huh?"
"Don't you know the structure of your own city?" Hao Ren was incredibly surprised by the two Sirens' reactions. He pointed at the nameplate on one of the pipes nearby. "Look at this, Nathatone—that's obviously how spaceships are named. One of the facilities we passed earlier was called a Resonance Wheel. Its basic operating instructions said it was used to 'counteract water-pressure fluctuations during acceleration.' There's also this thin pipe to your left. The nameplate said it leads to the engine section. What city has an engine? Only vehicles have those."
Shaqila was stunned for a long time before suddenly grabbing Hao Ren's arm in shock. "You can read Siren writing? You know what these things say? Where did you learn all this?!"
Hao Ren and the others exchanged glances. Even Izax couldn't help widening his eyes. "What does this mean? Don't you recognize your own writing?"
Shaqila shook her head. "No one knows what the signs around the city mean. We must have used this writing in the past, but for some reason it was lost. The Sirens responsible for maintaining the city only have a rough idea of how to operate some key equipment. Supposedly, the Queen and a few scholars can recognize some of this ancient writing, but even they know very little."
