The Scorched Earth Plains were vast and desolate, just like their name suggested. Across this boundless wasteland, all one could see were expanses of scorched earth. The land, eroded by Nightmare power, was barren, and cracks covered the charred ground. At a glance, the entire earth seemed to have once been burned by raging flames. In the ancient memories of King of Mountains and Rivers, this plain had once been lush with water and grass and filled with thriving populations. That was back when Koro had yet to shatter into pieces, before this land became the "Old World." Gorton remembered that the plain had once been located in Koro's Northern Hemisphere, in a temperate or perhaps subarctic zone. Back then, a beautiful city-state called "Ravendell" had stood on this plain. A mortal saint had ruled the land. She was a devout believer in the Creation Goddess, and through wisdom and faith, she had led her people to put down roots in the wilderness. She had also been a close friend of several Wardens. In that splendid age, although an evil god had been imprisoned within Koro's core, the planet had still teemed with life and hope. Loken had led the "Ancient Kings" in forming the "Sky Council," ruling the planet alongside mortals...
Every day back then had seemed to shine beneath a brilliant sun.
But those days would never return.
Gorton came back to himself from his brief daze. He saw a pillar of dust and smoke slowly collapsing, while countless twisted, evil monsters were being sent back into the depths of Chaos by the knights' battle formation spells and King of Fire - Gulash's storm of flames. The Chaos storm that had blotted out the sky seemed to have temporarily receded.
This was the Scorched Earth Plains of today.
