He had seen clansmen like that before, people who seemed like collections of negative emotions, filled with an aura of despair that came from the very depths of their hearts. They had terrified him, and he could never accept becoming someone like that.

Surely his deceased relatives would not have wanted him to become such a person, either.

Gu Sheng spoke again, as if deliberately keeping him on tenterhooks. "The Sharingan of the Uchiha Clan reflects the heart. It is the eye that mirrors the soul, closely connected to a person's mental state and Spiritual Energy.

"Those with powerful spirits might not need such intense stimulation. They may only need a trigger to awaken the Sharingan. Just look at Itachi Uchiha—his awakening of the Sharingan was practically effortless.

Although Gu Sheng was not exactly ostracized in Konoha, very little had ever circulated about his exploits, especially his background and what he had done before the Second Shinobi World War. Even within the Uchiha Clan, there seemed to be a force deliberately suppressing that information.
