Searching for a Tier 2 Zombie
Jiang You had just climbed to the third floor when she heard a series of screams.
Looking out through the stairwell window, she saw Teacher Tan and another man had not gone far before they were quickly surrounded by more than a dozen zombies because they had run too slowly.
Though the two fought back with all their strength, the resistance of two humans seemed especially feeble before a horde of zombies.
Especially when one of them was already injured.
One of the man's arms was torn off alive by the zombies, who gnawed at it frantically.
The scent of blood made the surrounding zombies even more excited.
"Roar, roar!!!"
A zombie grabbed Teacher Tan from behind, opened its mouth, and bit down at his skull.
"Aaaahhh!!!"
Teacher Tan looked in despair at the ever-growing swarm of zombies rushing toward him. The pain in his scalp was so intense that his soul nearly left his body.
In the blink of an eye, two more zombies seized his arms and opened their mouths to bite.
One small zombie was not very tall, only reaching his waist when standing.
That little zombie also fought for a share, ripping open his belly with one claw and pulling out his internal organs, stuffing them wildly into its mouth.
Teacher Tan felt as though his soul had ascended to heaven. In that moment of despair, he caught sight of someone staring at him from the window across the way.
He immediately looked closer.
It was Jiang You!
It was definitely Jiang You!
Countless times, she had stood coldly in a corner like that, expressionlessly enduring the paper balls, chewed gum, and spit thrown at her head.
She had been like a wooden post, never willing to cry or beg for mercy.
That look confirmed it for him—the person he had seen at the beginning was Jiang You.
He had not mistaken her for someone else!
Though he did not know why she had changed so drastically, he still recognized her.
Since it was her, why was she not saving him? He had been her teacher, after all!
That bitch was indeed no good. She had been unruly at school, and outside school she was just as vicious and ruthless!
He had clearly not mistaken her just now, so why had she refused to admit it?
Wasn't it because she was afraid he would cling to her?!
In an instant, countless thoughts flashed through his mind.
He regretted not treating every student fairly at school, yet also resented that little girl for being so heartless.
"Save me!!! Jiang You!!! Save me!!!"
"Save me! Teacher was wrong, I know I was wrong, save me!!!!"
His instinct to survive drove him to struggle wildly.
The companion beside him had already become one of the zombies. He did not want to become like that.
He absolutely could not bear becoming a filthy monster!
"Kill me!!!!"
"Jiang You! Kill me, please, kill me!!! I'm begging you, kill me!"
His shrill screams echoed in Jiang You's ears.
She watched expressionlessly as he was swallowed by the horde.
Then she turned and left.
Just as he had countless times watched her being bullied and turned a blind eye.
When she reached the sixth floor, Jiang You searched inside and out carefully, but found no mutant beasts or Tier 2 zombies of any other form.
Tier 2 zombies were born from further evolution on the foundation of Tier 1 zombies.
Tier 1 zombies were basically all in the same state—muddled and decaying all over, relying on their instinctive hunger to search for food.
But many Tier 2 zombies and above developed special abilities of their own.
For example, yesterday's second old man zombie had been good at climbing, with limbs that had grown very long.
Some zombies developed longer lower limbs and could run very fast; some became agile and could jump very high; some had bodies that became harder; some possessed tremendous strength; some would swell to twice their original size or even larger...
Some rarer zombies could even awaken a psychic domain.
Therefore, the moment she saw that strange black shadow, Jiang You's first thought had been a Tier 2 zombie. But now, it clearly was not.
She sighed. It seemed she had come here for nothing.
After searching the house, Jiang You was about to leave.
Just then, she suddenly caught sight of something.
Amid a row of withered plants on the windowsill, a pot of lush green cactus stood perfectly still.
Among all those yellowed, dead plants, the vibrant cactus was especially eye-catching.
"Huh? It's still alive after not being watered for so long. Desert plants really are tough."
Cannot find by searching book title? Try searching for the author instead—maybe the title was changed!
Jiang You squatted down and carefully examined the palm-sized cactus in front of her.
Thinking of her bare balcony, an idea suddenly came to Jiang You.
Following the principle that a thief never left empty-handed, she reached out and picked up the potted plant.
"I wonder if Cuihua can use this as a scratching post?"
She reached out to touch it, but underestimated just how sharp the cactus spines were. The next moment, a sharp sting pierced her finger.
A bright red bead of blood appeared.
Had she been pricked by the cactus?
Jiang You casually wiped away the blood on her finger, then carried the cactus away.
When she reached the street below, she ran into several zombies. Among them was Second Brother teacher, who had been gnawed down to half a body and was still crawling along the ground.
The moment it saw a living person, it struggled forward on its hands, dragging its mangled upper body as its mouth opened and closed continuously, saliva dripping down.
"Grrr!!!"
Jiang You casually hacked down the zombies that came near her, then quickly disappeared into a side street.
She did not know if it was just her imagination, but Jiang You felt as though someone was watching her.
She abruptly turned her head and looked back in the direction where she had taken the cactus, but there was still nothing there.
Was she being too sensitive?
Jiang You shook her head and quickly slipped into a nearby alley, heading home.
After she had gone far away, A strangely shaped zombie slowly crawled out from the shadows, hanging upside down from the ceiling.
It was a baby zombie. Its head had shriveled severely into an inverted triangle, while its round, bulging gray-white eyeballs rolled about. Its limbs were long like spider legs, and its feet curved into claws.
The baby zombie scuttled rapidly across the ceiling.
If Jiang You had been there, she would definitely have recognized it as a Tier 2 zombie.
This zombie had originally been the child of that household. After turning into a zombie, it had remained nearby and never left the building.
Earlier, it had sensed someone entering its home and had initially wanted to eat that human.
But for some reason, it had been a little afraid.
So it hid in a crack in the wall, which was why it had not been found.
The little spider zombie crawled onto the balcony and watched as that human carried off its potted plant.
It bared its teeth and let out a low growl, only for that person to suddenly turn and look back.
It was so frightened that it hurriedly shrank back into the corner.
That human was a little scary...
By the time she returned to the residential complex, it was already completely dark.
She climbed over the perimeter wall, crossed the withered landscaping, opened the iron door to her building, and began climbing the stairs.
By now, Jiang You had gotten used to going up and down several times a day, so the height of the building no longer felt especially difficult.
As she climbed, survivors constantly passed in and out.
Some of them were residents of the building, but the vast majority were outsiders.
When an auntie saw Jiang You returning alone again, she discreetly rolled her eyes and angrily packed up her things.
The last time she had run into Jiang You, she had asked to borrow some food. Not only had that little girl refused to lend her any, she had even beaten her up.
She had only cursed at her a few times, hadn't she?
She had not lost a single piece of flesh, yet Jiang You had actually attacked her!
What a cold-blooded woman. No wonder no one wanted to team up with her.
Ever since entering the stairwell, there had been constant noise around her.
The power was already out, but fortunately, the moonlight was bright that night. The stairwell was not enclosed either; there were large floor-to-ceiling windows at every landing, illuminating every step clearly.
"No, we have to take this pot with us. If we don't bring a pot, how are we supposed to heat food later?"
"We need to bring this basin too—it'll be useful later. Bring the quilts too, they'll be useful. This as well, and that. We absolutely can't throw this away!!"
"Are you sick in the head? We're fleeing for our lives, not going on vacation! If you bring so much stuff, then when we run into zombies and can't run as fast as everyone else, you'll be the one who gets eaten!!"
"I'm not leaving. Why should I leave? There are monsters everywhere—who knows what it's like outside? It might be even more terrifying!
Aren't we doing fine right now? The zombies in the neighborhood have all been cleared out. We're much safer here than outside, so why take the risk?!!"
"Not leaving? Are we supposed to stay here and wait to die? Once everyone else leaves and it's just us, who has the ability to clear out the zombies in the neighborhood regularly—you or me?!"
"Dad, Dad, I want to take my toys with me!"
"Take my ass! If you won't listen, then stay here hugging your toys and wait to die!"
"..."
