The Birth of a New Era's Military Merit System
At the Council of Elders, they could not come up with any set of rules for Baron Ryan's merits.
In fact, once things stalled on Baron Ryan's side, it became difficult to clearly define the merits of a whole series of imperial members, nobles, knights, armies, and soldiers in the war against the elves in the east.
After all, this was not a war commanded by the empire. From beginning to end, the empire had not even participated.
In the Council of Elders, the nobles led by Count Stirling clamored endlessly, impossible to suppress. This made the matter especially difficult, and even though the war in the south was deadlocked, letter after letter, both official and private, flew to Emperor Freud Columbus and the four grand dukes.
By comparison, in the Lost Lands, in Oren City, everything had far fewer twists and turns.
In Ryan's hands, the records of every soldier and every merit were real.
Because of the successive chaos in Oren City, there was not much local population belonging to the city. Before the army arrived, large numbers of streets and houses had stood empty. However, Ryan's name had already been written on those houses when they were built, so Grand Duke Oren had not dealt with them either.
Now, the city was filled with large numbers of people from the north, especially armies. The Kingdom Army, the Imperial Army, and the Noble Army of the Lost Lands had all gathered here.
The commoners feared the armies and hid inside their houses. Tall knights came and went along the roads, responsible for maintaining order, but the clamor of the city still could not be stopped.
Until Ryan's carriage arrived from outside the city.
