Dawn and Darkness (7)

The Corland Kingdom was now divided internally into three factions. The first faction was naturally the King.

Thanks to the outcome of the war between the Florian Empire and the Church of Dawn, the Empire had torn open The Church's blockade against it, allowing the whole world to see the Empire's new era and new vitality.

The nobles all wanted to learn from the Empire's strength. They were unwilling to fall behind.

The Corland Kingdom was the same, but this could not be accomplished by the King alone. Only if the King and the nobles worked together with one heart could they possibly set the ancient Corland Kingdom in motion.

The second faction within the kingdom was Grand Duke Gailan.

Grand Duke Gailan wanted to break away from the Church of Dawn and join the Empire. His policy was to abandon Dawn and enter the light.

As for why, and why nobles supported him, the answer was simple.

The Church of Dawn had previously issued them all kinds of orders, and every one of those orders ultimately demanded that the Corland Kingdom provide this or provide that.

Over time, the Corland Kingdom's nobles had seen their wealth shrink drastically. Of course, they had become dissatisfied with the Church of Dawn.

Moreover, the Church of Dawn had recently suffered massive turmoil, and the nobles had lost their last shred of reverence for those priests, bishops, and other clergy.

The third faction consisted of the nobles who supported neither the King nor the Grand Duke. They were quite content to lie flat. Whenever faced with any issue, they merely wore blank expressions and said—"Huh? What are you talking about?"
