After all, they were set to face the largest Vampire and Werewolf stronghold in New York. Everyone had brought out their trump cards to ensure the operation went off without a hitch.
They had come itching for a fight, ready to make a big show of it. Yet just as they approached the scene, they received orders to retreat. The pent-up excitement in their chests deflated miserably, and no one felt good about it.
But—someone had launched a nuclear weapon—no one was stubborn enough to insist on going down to take a look and test whether their Mutant abilities could withstand a thermonuclear blast.
This was before Wolverine had recovered his memories. Otherwise, he would have had a cigar clenched between his teeth and said, "It's not like I haven't been blown up before. What the hell is there to fear?"
Professor X looked at the students aboard the plane and let out a regretful sigh. "It's a pity John left with Magneto. If he were here, his abilities should have allowed us to contain the disaster and keep the nuclear explosion from spreading."
The John Professor X spoke of was St. John Allerdyce, codenamed Pyro,
one of his students.
Unfortunately, after visiting the U.S. military's secret base at Alkali Lake and witnessing the atrocities humanity had committed against Mutants, he chose to leave with Magneto. His current whereabouts were unknown.
His ability was to control fire. With proper guidance, he should have had a chance to control the power of a nuclear explosion—probably.
