Three days later, under the blazing midday sun, Selene and Michael Corvin passed through the ultraviolet lamps and Moon-Phase Instrument security gate at the police station entrance and arrived at New York City Police Headquarters.
After entering the station without issue, the two glanced back at the security devices by the entrance before walking together to the service desk. "Ma'am, we're here to see Commissioner Stacy," Michael Corvin said in broken English with a strange accent.
"Do you have an appointment? And you are...?"
"Corvin, Michael Corvin. This is my wife, Selene. Sorry, she doesn't speak English. Commissioner Stacy should know we were coming."
"Please wait a moment. I'll confirm with the commissioner's office." The female officer at the desk contacted the commissioner's office through the internal line and immediately received a positive response. "Mr. and Mrs. Corvin, the commissioner is already waiting for you. Please take the elevator on the right to the twelfth floor."
"Thank you."
After they reached the twelfth floor, a young male officer was already waiting outside the elevator. "Good day, Mr. Corvin, Mrs. Corvin. Please follow me. The commissioner is waiting for you."
Following the officer, they arrived at the commissioner's office. George Stacy was neither overly warm nor cold toward them, because his eyes were fixed solemnly on the news footage playing on the television.
The footage showed what appeared to be a plane crash disaster site, where many yellow-skinned search-and-rescue workers were combing the area.
"What happened there?" Selene asked, looking at the scene on the television.
Michael Corvin watched for a while before saying, "In East Malaysia, a Life Foundation space exploration vessel crashed. They're searching the site for survivors."
Only after hearing them speak did George Stacy realize they had arrived and turn around. "Good day, Mr. Corvin, Mrs. Corvin."
