A Different Turn of Events

Inside the cockpit of the X-Jet Blackbird, Mystique was simmering with anger because the man she could take it out on was not there.

No one knew why the former principal of the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning was angry. Everyone only knew to stay away from her unless they wanted to get burned.

After all, everyone present was either her former colleague or one of her former students. This principal was not the gentle, considerate type.

The only two who were probably unfamiliar with her were Wolverine and Rogue.

Wolverine himself had forgotten that he and Mystique had once been comrades during the Vietnam War. That was why Mystique had unusually slipped into his tent last night, hoping for a long-overdue friendly match.

Rogue's situation was far more complicated.

This rebellious girl had run away from home before her Mutant abilities awakened, before she accidentally hurt someone else and fled home.

At the time, Mystique had also just left the X-Men and departed from the Mutant school.

The two had lived together for a while. However, Mystique had used a human appearance and had not revealed her original blue-skinned form. Moreover, she had been with another Mutant at the time—Irene Adler.

Later, the two lovers broke up. Mystique persuaded the rebellious little girl to return home, while she herself reunited with Magneto and officially joined the Brotherhood of Mutants.

Out of concern for the girl, Mystique had always quietly kept an eye on Anna Marie LeBeau—Rogue's life.

That was why, when Selene divined who could play a major role in Magneto's plan to transform all humans into Mutants, Rogue's image appeared. The Brotherhood of Mutants had been able to quickly identify her and confirm the nature of her power.
