President George Bush of the United States had been preparing to deliver a public address. Following the terrorist organizations in the Middle East, he intended to formally declare Mutants enemies of the United States on television. However, that broadcast was ultimately canceled.

Professor X led the X-Men through the White House's main entrance. He froze everyone in place and strode straight into the president's Oval Office.

The room was packed with staff setting up camera equipment for the televised address. Yet at that moment, it was as though time had stopped, and everyone remained utterly motionless.

The fact that Professor X had done this showed that he, too, was angry. Otherwise, he would not have relied on his immense power to do something tantamount to breaking the law, bypassing everyone to meet the nation's leader directly.

Whether George Bush had nerves of steel or simply failed to realize how dangerous his situation was, he accepted the documents Professor X handed him and read through them openly. Then cold sweat began to pour down his face...

Professor X spoke beside him. "Mr. President, Mutants have never been your enemies, much less enemies of the United States. The assassination attempt against you was a conspiracy planned by military personnel with their own selfish interests in mind. Their actions, their various inhumane deeds—the evidence is all before you. If necessary, you can send people to investigate the military base at Alkali Lake in Canada."

Compared with those cruel human experiments, George Bush's reason for backing down was not sympathy for Mutants, but the assassination plot. Because it meant there had been a coup attempt against him!
