Stand by and do nothing?
Or go save her?
If it hadn't been for that girl, would those killers have gone on to murder other people?
And the final question was: how much time remained before the vision she had seen came true?
With barely any hesitation, Cathy Weber grabbed a jacket, put it on, and hurried out.
She was not actually familiar with this neighbor. She did not know when the girl had moved in or how long she had lived there. They had only occasionally made eye contact when passing on the stairs. The reason Cathy remembered her was that she had once happened to see her begging the landlord for leniency over overdue rent.
That girl probably did not live alone, right? She looked underage, and legally, she could not possibly have been allowed to live by herself.
In fact, until the moment Cathy Weber knocked on the door, she had not thought about how she was supposed to persuade the girl.
The South American girl who opened the door cautiously left only a narrow crack. But there was no security chain on her door, making that caution seem rather fragile.
"What is it?" the girl asked through the gap.
"Are there any other adults in your home?"
Before the girl could answer, the woman at the door quickly added, "Apparently not. Hurry up, come with me. If we don't leave now, it'll be too late."
Before Anya Corazon could react, she had already been dragged outside. She had not even had time to shut her own door before this woman, who was presumably her neighbor, hauled her downstairs.
There was still a difference in strength between an adult and a minor, not to mention the difference between a high school girl who never dared draw attention
