Below is the Ability setup for Mega Poliwrath...

Ash's Greninja was also patched in Generation IX because its Ability was [Bond Transformation]. I only noticed that now.

Greninja's Base Stat total was 530. After Bond Transformation, meaning after Mega Evolution, it became 640, so it counted as a Mega Evolution too.

If that's the case, I only needed to give Poliwrath the Ability [Bond Transformation]. The protagonist would not even need Aura to complete Bond Evolution.

Adding it now would not count as a bug either, since the [Bond Transformation] Ability only appeared after Bond Evolution. And Poliwrath had two Abilities, so aside from Bond Transformation, there was still another Ability to choose...

So... should it retain its original Abilities, Damp and Swift Swim, or choose again?

Swift Swim was actually pretty good. Swampert also had that Ability after Mega Evolution.

Based on Poliwrath's battle role, there were only two directions: high speed and high burst damage. So it could only choose between them.

Poliwrath's awkward point was that it had no moves to boost its speed, while Swift Swim had drawbacks. It was finished the moment it ran into Thunder. After all, it was a Water-type Pokémon; it simply could not fight Dragonite and the like...
