Ch. 530Eevee

Yu Hai rescued an abandoned Eevee and learned that its unusual Dark-type energy came from its parent, an Absol living on Evolution Mountain. After Eevee recovered, he planned to return it to Absol the next morning.

  • Yu Hai watched battles, then saw Boy abandon Eevee after ordering Water Eevee to blast it with Water Gun.
  • Yu Hai captured the injured Eevee and took it to Nurse Joy for emergency treatment.
  • Yu Hai examined Eevee's panel and found its high Potential and unusually proficient Dark Pulse and Future Sight.
  • Darkrai sensed an approaching Absol, then explained that Eevee shared its Dark-type energy and was Absol's child.
  • Yu Hai decided not to keep Eevee and planned to take it up Evolution Mountain after it recovered.
  • Nurse Joy told Yu Hai that Eevee would be fine after resting, and Yu Hai returned to his room for the night.

Ch. 531Evolution Mountain

Yu Hai reunited Eevee with its mother, Absol, on Evolution Mountain, then searched the mountain’s base for Evolution Stones. He collected seven stones, though their low quality meant they would do little to cover his funding shortfall.

  • Yu Hai let Eevee eat breakfast with his Pokémon, then asked Darkrai to bring Absol out of hiding.
  • Absol confirmed Eevee was her child, reunited with it, and carried it toward the mountaintop despite Yu Hai’s offer of Energy Cubes.
  • Yu Hai began searching Evolution Mountain’s base with Darkrai and Gengar, and Gengar retrieved a Fire Stone from underground.
  • Yu Hai found fossils, mostly Omanyte shells, and continued searching the base rather than climbing the mountain.
  • Yu Hai completed a circuit of the mountain’s base and found seven Evolution Stones: three Fire Stones, two Water Stones, one Thunder Stone, and one Leaf Stone.

Ch. 532Mega Stone

Yu Hai searched Evolution Mountain with Darkrai and Gengar, collecting Evolution Stones and discovering a Sharpedo Mega Stone at the bottom of a lake. He continued up the mountain after escaping the afternoon heat and planned to camp there while searching for several more days.

  • Darkrai sensed a scorching aura beneath an open-pit mine, where Gengar found a Sun Stone and several Fire Stones while Hana Hana ate Heat Rock underground.
  • Yu Hai continued searching Evolution Mountain and collected a low-grade Leaf Stone and four more low-grade Evolution Stones.
  • At a mountain lake, Gengar retrieved a medium-grade Water Stone alongside an ancient Sharpedo Mega Stone, which Yu Hai decided to keep for a future Sharpedo.
  • Yu Hai rested in a shaded cave during the hottest part of the day, then resumed searching after four in the afternoon and gathered firewood to camp on the mountain.

Ch. 533An Encounter with the Poaching Gang

Yu Hai took in Eevee after its injured parent, Absol, fled from the Poaching Gang, then captured and questioned Guita. He ambushed the gang, seized their valuables and several Pokémon, and left Guita tied up with his Pokémon returned.

  • Yu Hai experimented with coating Shelmet’s shell in Damp Rock powder, then heard explosions and saw an injured Absol arrive carrying Eevee.
  • Absol asked Yu Hai to look after Eevee, and Yu Hai fed the Pokémon after Absol disappeared into the night.
  • The Poaching Gang came looking for Absol, noticed Eevee, and left after judging Yu Hai’s Pokémon too strong to confront directly.
  • Yu Hai’s Spinarak caught Guita spying on the campsite, and Gengar hypnotized him so Yu Hai could learn about the Poaching Gang and the thefts in Stone Town.
  • Yu Hai sent Darkrai to ambush the gang, then took their valuables, kept two Heracross and a Machoke, and released their other Pokémon.
  • Yu Hai returned Farfetch'd and Meowth to Guita, who woke up tied up and realized the gang leader was likely in danger.

Ch. 534The Youngster's Sky

Yu Hai tested Guita by using Darkrai to make him believe he had killed the poaching gang leader, then offered to keep him with Farfetch'd and help him grow stronger. Guita chose to follow Yu Hai and spoke of wanting the freedom of a bird in the sky, leaving him with a new goal as he joined Yu Hai's camp.

  • Yu Hai told Guita he would hand him to Officer Jenny, but reconsidered after hearing that Guita feared being separated from Farfetch'd.
  • Yu Hai had Darkrai hypnotize Guita and made him believe he had stabbed the poaching gang leader; Guita accepted the idea that he needed strength to stop being bullied.
  • Guita awoke to find the gang leader gone and ketchup on his hands, then reunited with Farfetch'd, Meowth, and Shuckle.
  • Yu Hai promised not to send Guita to Officer Jenny or separate him from Farfetch'd, and Guita agreed to follow him and grow stronger.
  • Guita told Yu Hai he wanted the freedom of flying Pokémon, and Yu Hai encouraged him to seek freedom alongside them.

Ch. 535The Road Down the Mountain

Yu Hai helped Guita begin building a team of capable Pokémon while searching Evolution Mountain for Evolution Stones, and their dwindling finds convinced him to leave Stone Town the next day. Guita agreed to travel onward with Yu Hai before heading to the Orange Islands for training with Luo Yan.

  • Yu Hai stopped searching for Evolution Stones during the hottest hours and sent Guita to catch Flying-type Pokémon that could grow without Evolution Stones.
  • After screening Guita’s catches, Yu Hai chose a Caterpie with a Potential of fifty-two and later a Pidgey with a Potential of fifty.
  • Yu Hai and Guita explored the mountain caves, found one medium-quality and eleven low-grade Evolution Stones, and caught Pokémon including a Zubat and Geodude.
  • Farfetch'd guided them out of the caves near the snowy peak, and Yu Hai decided they would descend the mountain and leave Stone Town the next day.
  • Guita agreed to travel with Yu Hai to Cerulean City and then go to the Orange Islands to study Pokémon breeding and receive guidance from Luo Yan.

Ch. 536Farewell

Yu Hai and Guita left Evolution Mountain after Yu Hai traded Shelmet and Karrablast into Accelgor and Escargot, then tested their abilities. Before setting out for Cerulean City, Yu Hai reunited Eevee with Absol, but Absol entrusted Eevee to him, and Yu Hai continued the journey with Eevee and Guita.

  • Yu Hai and Guita left Evolution Mountain, and Yu Hai arranged a trade evolution for Shelmet and Karrablast in Stone Town.
  • Yu Hai inspected Accelgor's new abilities and speed, then tested Escargot's resistance to Fire Punch and decided to return it to MikanGym.
  • Darkrai sensed Absol nearby, and Yu Hai took Eevee into the forest to meet its mother.
  • Absol nudged Eevee toward Yu Hai, who caught the crying Eevee in a Heal Ball and accepted responsibility for it.
  • Guita arrived late, and Yu Hai set off toward Cerulean City on Tauros while Guita followed on foot as Absol watched and roared farewell.

Ch. 538On the Road

Yu Hai and Guita traveled through a coastal town and forest toward Cerulean City while Guita trained his Pidgey to help with travel. After Pidgey evolved into Pidgeotto, they camped by the shore, where Guita continued catching Pokémon as Yu Hai settled in for the night.

  • Yu Hai and Guita reached the coast, explored a small town, and entered a nearby forest to look for a Pokémon Guita could ride.
  • Yu Hai saw that Guita's Pidgey was close to evolving and gave him a Flying Gem to use after it evolved.
  • Guita trained Pidgey against Wild Pokémon, caught some defeated Pokémon, and released them after Yu Hai found their Potential too low.
  • Guita's Pidgey defeated a Wild Spearow, absorbed the Flying Gem, and evolved into Pidgeotto.
  • Yu Hai and Guita reached the shore and set up camp; Guita went out to catch Long-winged Gull while Yu Hai read and rested.

Ch. 539Treasure Hunting in Big Fool Valley

Yu Hai explored the underground cavern beneath Big Fool Valley and collected Water-type resources and valuable items from an ancient Aerodactyl skeleton. He left the sleeping Pokémon undisturbed while Ash and the others arrived at the valley above.

  • Yu Hai decided to visit Big Fool Valley for fossils, left Guita in town to search for Magikarp, and flew to the canyon with Pelipper.
  • Yu Hai used Darkrai to locate a concealed, thin cavern ceiling and had Rhydon dig a tunnel into the underground cavern.
  • Yu Hai descended with Pelipper and, after muffling his footsteps, followed Darkrai through the cavern and collected Water Stones, Water Gems, Damp Rocks, and other items.
  • Yu Hai found an Aerodactyl skeleton and removed valuable materials, including Elite-class Dragon Fangs, a Sharp Beak, and a Hard Stone.
  • Yu Hai avoided catching the ancient Pokémon so he would not wake them, while Ash's trio, Gary, and Team Rocket arrived at Big Fool Valley.

Ch. 540Elite Four Battle

Yu Hai uncovered Elite Four Hard Stones from an Aerodactyl skeleton in Big Fool Valley, then narrowly escaped a living Aerodactyl when Ash and Team Rocket disturbed the cavern. After the League sealed the valley, he watched Lance battle Bisharp and saw how far his own Pokémon still had to go.

  • Yu Hai excavated Hard Stones from a Mega Aerodactyl skeleton, cleaned up the site, and hid when Ash and Team Rocket entered the cavern.
  • A living Aerodactyl woke and went after the intruders, allowing Yu Hai to slip away and escape as the cavern was sealed.
  • Team Rocket’s trio contacted Sakaki, who sent Bisharp and a recovery team to Big Fool Valley to capture ancient Pokémon.
  • Yu Hai returned to Guita, inspected more than a thousand Silly Fish, and chose one with fifty-four Potential before learning the League had closed the valley.
  • Explosions drew Yu Hai back to Big Fool Valley, where he watched Lance and Bisharp’s Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon clash until reinforcements surrounded Bisharp and he escaped.
  • Yu Hai returned to Guita and reflected on the gap between his Pokémon and the destructive power of Elite Four Trainers.

Ch. 541Farewell

Yu Hai and Guita traveled by cruise ship across the inland sea, where Yu Hai reviewed his Pokémon’s progress and battled aboard the ship. After they parted at the harbor, Yu Hai stayed overnight in the city before continuing toward Cerulean City, while Eevee settled comfortably beside him.

  • Yu Hai and Guita boarded a cruise ship, and Yu Hai considered trading a Hard Stone for a Top-tier Water Stone to evolve Poliwhirl.
  • Yu Hai checked his Pokémon’s status panels and noted Golbat and Toxicroak had reached Veteran Class, while Weezing was growing quickly.
  • Yu Hai battled aboard the ship with Forretress, whose defenses withstood every opponent’s attacks, including Fire-type moves.
  • Guita departed on a connecting ship without catching a talented Long-winged Gull, and Yu Hai wished him well on his journey to the Orange Islands.
  • Yu Hai registered at the Pokémon Center in the harbor city and went to sleep with Eevee, which curled up beside him after reflecting on its new Trainer.

Ch. 544Celadon Gym

Yu Hai challenged Celadon Gym and earned the Rainbow Badge after Scyther defeated Rika’s first two Pokémon. He then traveled to Saffron City to challenge the Fighting Dojo, leaving the chapter as he entered it.

  • Yu Hai transferred Escargot back, flew to Celadon City, and went to challenge its Gym.
  • Yu Hai’s Scyther defeated Rika’s Tangela and Whimsicott with repeated Fury Cutter attacks.
  • Rika conceded and awarded Yu Hai the Rainbow Badge, his fifth Badge.
  • Yu Hai decided to challenge the Fighting Dojo in Saffron City before the remaining Gyms and flew there.
  • Yu Hai arrived in Saffron City and entered the Fighting Dojo while it was still open.

Ch. 545Fighting Dojo

Yu Hai won the Fighting Dojo Badge after Poliwhirl defeated Tsugiyo’s Hitmontop and Gym Leader Bum Lee’s Hitmonchan. He fled Saffron City after Darkrai sensed Sabrina’s powerful psychic presence, then reached Cerulean City before midnight.

  • Bum Lee allowed Yu Hai to challenge the Fighting Dojo with Poliwhirl, even though it was not a Fighting type.
  • Poliwhirl exploited Hitmontop’s balance weakness and knocked it out, defeating Tsugiyo in the first battle.
  • Poliwhirl injured Hitmonchan with Ice Punch and then defeated it with Focus Punch, earning Yu Hai the Fighting Badge.
  • Yu Hai left Saffron City with Darkrai after Darkrai sensed Sabrina, and Yu Hai explained Sabrina’s psychic power and Sakaki’s strength.
  • Yu Hai flew north to Cerulean City and planned to visit the Cerulean Gym and watch the Cerulean Sisters’ Water Ballet the next day.

Ch. 546Cerulean Gym

Yu Hai became the Cerulean Gym’s Acting Gym Leader and defeated a crowd of challengers while the Cerulean Sisters rehearsed and flirted with him. The day’s battles continued when a rude green-haired trainer arrived with a Sandslash, setting up Yu Hai’s next match.

  • Yu Hai visited the Cerulean Gym and agreed to serve as Acting Gym Leader while the Cerulean Sisters rehearsed.
  • After Sakura turned the pool into a battlefield, Yu Hai used Kingler, Pelipper, and Gyarados to defeat every challenger who lined up.
  • Sakura brought Yu Hai lunch, and he told her he had met Xiao Xia near Saffron City with Ash and Brock.
  • Sakura teased Yu Hai by removing a grain of rice from his mouth, startling him and Eevee before Ayame and Botan joined in.
  • A green-haired trainer criticized the Gym and released his Sandslash to challenge Yu Hai.

Ch. 548Latias

Yu Hai defeated a Sandslash at Cerulean Gym and earned the Blue Badge, but Pokémon Inspector Nurse Joy ordered the Gym closed until its real Gym Leader returned for assessment. After resting at the Pokémon Center, Yu Hai sensed a powerful presence with Nurse Joy and suspected she had brought a young Latias.

  • Yu Hai used Kingler's boosted Crab Hammer to defeat the boy's Sandslash, which had resisted both water and ice attacks.
  • Nurse Joy revealed she was a Pokémon Inspector and ordered Cerulean Gym closed until Xiao Xia personally reported for assessment.
  • Sakura gave Yu Hai the Blue Badge, bringing his total to seven, and he left Cerulean Gym to prepare for a trip to Mt. Moon and Pewter City.
  • At the Pokémon Center, Darkrai sensed a powerful aura with Nurse Joy, and Yu Hai suspected her Latias was still young.
  • Yu Hai retrieved his treated Pokémon, rented a private room, and fell asleep beside Eevee.

Ch. 549Mt. Moon

Yu Hai explored Mt. Moon, caught Clefairy and Diglett, and secretly obtained four Moon Stones from the guarded summit. He settled in a cave for the night, but the ongoing battle below enraged Nidoking, which headed down the mountain.

  • Yu Hai entered Mt. Moon with his Pokémon, found a low-grade Leaf Stone, and caught several Diglett while searching the tunnels.
  • Yu Hai caught a low-Potential Clefairy and later a better one, then avoided the Nidoran and their protective relatives as he climbed toward the summit.
  • Darkrai warned Yu Hai about two Elite-class presences guarding Evolution Stones, so Yu Hai sent Darkrai to retrieve four Moon Stones without Gengar.
  • Yu Hai found an exit but stayed in the cave overnight as fighting between two groups continued and spread toward the summit.
  • Nidoking roared and descended the mountain, leaving an Elite-class Nidoqueen at the summit.

Ch. 550Beast Tamer Xiao Ming

Yu Hai found the injured Shi Xiao Ming drifting down a stream and discovered that the Spirit Hunter was fleeing two Trainers who wanted the rare Omanyte he had caught. After Yu Hai checked that Shi Xiao Ming had no warrant and offered him food and advice, his pursuers arrived at the camp.

  • Yu Hai found Shi Xiao Ming in the stream, rescued him, and checked his identity with Old Drunkard before letting him eat.
  • Shi Xiao Ming explained that two Trainers had chased him after he caught an Omanyte in Big Fool Valley.
  • Yu Hai urged Shi Xiao Ming to stop Spirit Hunting and suggested targeting other hunters instead.
  • Shi Xiao Ming prepared to leave and promised to repay Yu Hai if he reached the Indigo League alive.
  • Two pursuers followed the smoke from Yu Hai's camp and confronted Shi Xiao Ming.

Ch. 551Run with Me

Yu Hai and Shi Xiao Ming defeated the two hunters pursuing Shi Xiao Ming, then divided their Pokémon and supplies. Yu Hai offered Shi Xiao Ming a place in his group and promised to help him reach the Elite Four, but Shi Xiao Ming remained uncertain and asked how Yu Hai could prove his ability.

  • Shi Xiao Ming tried to protect Yu Hai from the two hunters, but Yu Hai sent Gyarados and his other Pokémon into battle.
  • Yu Hai and Shi Xiao Ming defeated the hunters and gathered their fourteen Pokémon and backpacks.
  • Yu Hai divided the spoils with Shi Xiao Ming, who objected because Yu Hai had saved him twice and done most of the fighting.
  • Yu Hai asked Shi Xiao Ming to work with him and identified himself as A Hai, an Orange Islands Gym trainer competing in the Indigo League.
  • Yu Hai promised to help Shi Xiao Ming become one of the Elite Four, and Shi Xiao Ming asked how Yu Hai could prove he had that ability.

Ch. 552Pewter City

Yu Hai and Shi Xiao Ming agreed that Shi Xiao Ming would join Yu Hai’s organization if Yu Hai defeated him at the Indigo League, and Yu Hai continued on to Pewter City. He settled in for the night, planning to challenge the Gym the next day.

  • Yu Hai explained the costs and time needed to raise a Pokémon to Elite Four level, and Shi Xiao Ming reconsidered Yu Hai’s invitation.
  • Shi Xiao Ming agreed to follow Yu Hai if Yu Hai defeated him at the Indigo League, while Yu Hai said he would not need to help the organization until he reached the Elite Four.
  • Yu Hai and Shi Xiao Ming parted ways, with Yu Hai heading for Pewter City and Shi Xiao Ming going to Cerulean City to prepare for the tournament.

Yu Hai spoke with Blaine about Ai’s mother and then challenged Pewter Gym, defeating Jiro’s Rhydon with Gyarados. Bugsy stepped in for the final match with an Elite-level Onix, which shrugged off Gyarados’s Hydro Pump before Yu Hai ordered Ice Beam.

  • Yu Hai called Blaine, learned that Ai’s mother had been found and was being investigated for possible ties to Team Rocket, and urged Blaine to tell her the truth about Ai and the cloning project.
  • Yu Hai arrived at Pewter Gym, discovered Jiro was its Gym Leader, and watched Jiro win several battles with Rhydon.
  • Yu Hai sent out Gyarados, whose Hydro Pump and Earthquake defeated Jiro’s already-battered Rhydon.
  • Bugsy comforted Jiro, revealed that he had once won the Indigo League Champion title, and challenged Yu Hai with his enormous Onix.
  • Gyarados’s Hydro Pump failed to affect Onix, so Yu Hai ordered Gyarados to use Ice Beam.
