Ch. 649Pokémon Count

Yu Hai woke and organized dinner for his Pokémon, then reviewed the care, training, and evolution plans for his growing collection. He counted sixty-seven Pokémon in all and decided to leave the cabin soon to catch the Pokémon needed for combination evolution.

  • Yu Hai woke at sunset and spent over an hour sorting Energy Cubes for his Pokémon and twenty-five clones.
  • Yu Hai reviewed his Pokémon’s injuries, training, and evolution needs, including Poliwhirl, Scyther, Marshtomp, and the five Third Tier Pokémon.
  • Yu Hai considered giving Farfetch'd and Riolu roles guarding the Orchard and planned to focus more on Tentacool and Mudkip as they neared evolution.
  • Yu Hai counted thirty-six Pokémon, then added inactive, uncaught, and clone Pokémon to reach a total of sixty-seven.
  • Yu Hai decided that testing combination evolution was most urgent and planned to catch Cloyster, Sharp-toothed Fish, Diglett, and Magnemite before visiting Asia Island and the Kanto Region.

Ch. 650Making Friends

Yu Hai helped Mewtwo learn about friendship and welcomed it into breakfast with his Pokémon. Outside, he began introducing his Pokémon to Mewtwo’s twenty-five clones and arranged a friendly battle between Poliwhirl and three Water-type clones.

  • Mewtwo told Yu Hai that it had observed classes at a human school, and Yu Hai encouraged it to learn about family and friendship by observing people.
  • Yu Hai showed Mewtwo a fist bump and invited it to share breakfast with his Pokémon, making Mewtwo feel respected.
  • After breakfast, Yu Hai introduced his Water-type Pokémon to the clone Pokémon, who looked to Mewtwo for reassurance.
  • Yu Hai asked Poliwhirl to battle Blastoise, Gyarados, and Golduck together, and Poliwhirl prepared to fight while the three clones surrounded it.

Ch. 651Establishing Authority

Yu Hai introduced the cloned Pokémon to his team and arranged for cabins to be built beside the lake. After hiding the clones from the construction crew, he finished overseeing the work and was surprised by Ada and Dunmei’s arrival.

  • Poliwhirl defeated Golduck, Blastoise, and Gyarados in a brief spar, and Yu Hai treated their injuries and welcomed them to the lake.
  • Yu Hai introduced the newly arrived cloned Pokémon to his team and distributed Energy Cubes, while the Pokémon began making friends and exploring.
  • When the construction crew arrived, Mewtwo helped hide the cloned Pokémon, and Yu Hai arranged for fifty small cabins and three larger ones to be installed beside the lake.
  • Yu Hai paid twelve million for the completed Pokémon cabins and considered the cost of buying the land and lake.
  • Ada and Dunmei arrived at Lakeside Cabin, and Ada excitedly ran over to Yu Hai after seeing his Pokémon gathered by the water.

Ch. 652Tentacool Evolves

Yu Hai prepared for his Pokémon’s evolutions while Dunmei and Ada visited, bringing breakfast that Dunmei had made. Tentacool evolved into Tentacruel at the lakeshore, and Yu Hai examined its growth before sending it to celebrate with the others.

  • Ada revealed that his Magikarp had evolved into Gyarados, which Yu Hai’s Gyarados promptly knocked underwater.
  • Dunmei brought breakfast, but her overly salty buns and unsuccessful lunch led Yu Hai to cook a meal for her.
  • Yu Hai brought Mudkip and Tentacool to the lake to prepare for their evolutions, while Dunmei and Ada watched.
  • Yu Hai gave Tentacool a Water Gem, a Poison Gem, and a Water Stone to absorb energy for its evolution.
  • Tentacool evolved into Tentacruel, spat out the nearly depleted Water Stone, and received Energy Cubes from Yu Hai.

Ch. 653Mudkip Evolves

Yu Hai evolved Tentacool and Mudkip, then welcomed his Pokémon and the rescued clones into their newly built cabin. After Ada and Dunmei left, he settled in with his Pokémon, hoping their peaceful new life would last.

  • Yu Hai used a Water Stone to evolve Tentacool into Tentacruel and explained to Ada why evolution stones could help even when they were not required.
  • Yu Hai fed Mudkip a Water Stone, a Water Gem, and a Ground Gem, evolving it into Whiscash and raising its Potential to 61%.
  • Yu Hai and Ada fought a six-on-six battle that ended in a draw, and Dunmei's planned battle with Yu Hai was postponed when rain began.
  • Ada and Dunmei left as the construction workers finished, and Yu Hai showed the clone Pokémon and his own Pokémon their new cabin and let them choose rooms.
  • Yu Hai shared dinner with more than sixty Pokémon, watched the sunset with them, and calculated that he could afford their food.
  • Yu Hai went to bed with Eevee and Slowpoke, let Psyduck, Pikachu, and Meowth stay in the bedroom, and wondered how to develop the clone Pokémon.

Ch. 654Magby Evolves

Yu Hai brought Magby to an extinct volcano to evolve it amid a Lava Pool, intending to provide it with ample Fire-type energy. Magby’s evolution consumed nearly all of Yu Hai’s Fire-type supplies, and the chapter ended with Magby still calling for more.

  • Yu Hai put an Everstone on Dratini and decided to let it reach its Shed Skin limit before allowing it to evolve.
  • Yu Hai gathered Magby’s evolution supplies and flew with Magby, Rhydon, and Poliwhirl to the summit of Mikan Island’s extinct volcano.
  • Rhydon dug underground until Yu Hai and Magby found a Lava Pool suitable for the evolution.
  • Magby began evolving atop the Fire-type items, and its heat melted the surrounding rocks and supplies.
  • Yu Hai and Poliwhirl threw additional Fire Stones, Charcoals, Gems, and Sun Stones to Magby as it continued absorbing energy.
  • After the evolution consumed items worth around one hundred million, Magby still called for more.

Ch. 655Volcanic Eruption

Yu Hai’s Magby triggered an eruption while evolving, and Yu Hai, Dunmei, Dunmei’s Father, Officer Jenny, and their Pokémon diverted the lava safely into the sea. With the eruption under control but Magby’s fate still unknown, Yu Hai began proposing an idea involving Cinnabar Island to help Mikan Island.

  • Magby’s evolution stirred the dormant volcano, forcing Yu Hai and his Pokémon to flee as lava and smoke rose from the crater.
  • Officer Jenny confronted Yu Hai, and Dunmei and Dunmei’s Father arrived as the volcano erupted and lava flowed west, away from populated areas.
  • Yu Hai rode Pelipper to the crater and directed Rhydon to cut channels and build barriers to guide the lava toward the coast.
  • Yu Hai brought his Pokémon to expand the trenches and clear trees, while Dunmei and Officer Jenny joined the effort with their Pokémon.
  • Before evening, they diverted the lava into the sea without casualties, and Officer Jenny warned Yu Hai not to take such risks again.
  • Yu Hai looked toward the still-erupting volcano, worried about Magby, then asked Officer Jenny and Dunmei’s Father whether they had heard of Cinnabar Island.

Ch. 656Magmar

Yu Hai proposed developing Mikan Island’s lava river into a hot-spring tourist district, and Officer Jenny and Dunmei’s Father considered seeking development rights. A volcanic rock then exploded, revealing that Yu Hai’s Magby had evolved into an uncontrollably hot Magmar, which Yu Hai claimed before Dunmei’s Father could take it away.

  • Yu Hai proposed building a hot-spring inn, gourmet street, and tourist attractions around the lava river, and Dunmei’s Father and Officer Jenny saw potential in the plan.
  • Officer Jenny said she would work with Nurse Joy and the mayor to apply to the League for land development rights, while Dunmei’s Father considered how MikanGym could benefit.
  • At the geologists’ camp, a black volcanic rock cracked, overheated, and exploded, forcing Yu Hai and the others to take cover.
  • Yu Hai had Pelipper clear the smoke and discovered Magmar standing amid molten ground, then confirmed it was his evolved Magby when his Poké Ball recalled it.
  • The destroyed Poké Ball left Magmar unowned, and an onlooker’s Ultra Ball failed to hold it; Dunmei’s Father tried to restrain Magmar, but Yu Hai stopped him and said Magmar was his Pokémon.

Ch. 657Riolu's Change

Yu Hai captured the newly evolved Magmar after a hiker lent him a Heat Ball, then returned to the Lakeside Cabin with his exhausted Pokémon. As the group settled into a warm dinner, Farfetch'd encouraged Riolu to join Yu Hai, but Riolu remained hesitant despite beginning to feel safe and welcome.

  • Dunmei's Father recognized Blaine's influence on Yu Hai and resolved to increase the Gym's investment in him.
  • A hiker gave Yu Hai a Heat Ball, which successfully captured Magmar, and Officer Jenny dispersed the gathered crowd while warning that the volcano remained unstable.
  • Yu Hai declined Dunmei's Father's dinner invitation and flew back to the Lakeside Cabin, where Farfetch'd prepared soup for the tired Pokémon.
  • Riolu reflected on its past abuse and its growing sense of safety among Yu Hai's Pokémon, while Farfetch'd urged it to follow Yu Hai to a bigger stage.
  • Yu Hai reassured Riolu and asked Farfetch'd to keep looking after it, then went upstairs to rest with Eevee, Slowpoke, and Poliwhirl.

Ch. 658Magmar's Panel

Yu Hai checked Magmar’s Proficiency Panel after its evolution and discovered that a hundred million worth of Fire-type items had raised its Potential to quasi-Champion level. Inspired by Magmar’s growth in the volcanic environment, he considered finding a water-rich place to support Poliwhirl’s eventual evolution.

  • Yu Hai let Mewtwo know that he and the others were turning in early, and Mewtwo chose to stay in the cabin.
  • Yu Hai checked Magmar’s panel and found its Potential had reached 77.34%, with its level nearing Veteran Class and several Fire-type moves newly mastered.
  • Yu Hai concluded that Magmar’s Flame Body and Fire-type moves made it formidable at close range, though Ground-type attacks remained a threat.
  • Yu Hai credited Blaine and Magmar’s volcanic evolution environment for its remarkable growth, and wondered whether the same approach could help Poliwhirl.
  • Yu Hai considered searching the Orange Islands for a place rich in water vapor, then eventually fell asleep thinking about Magmar’s potential.

Ch. 660Poliwhirl Evolves

Yu Hai prepared a carefully chosen lakeside setting and Water- and Fighting-type resources to help Poliwhirl evolve. As Poliwhirl began evolving with a Top-tier Water Stone, Riolu's Aura stirred a mysterious power within it, and Poliwhirl's body began to change.

  • Yu Hai realized that the morning dew, sunlight, and moisture by the lake could provide ideal conditions for Poliwhirl's evolution.
  • Yu Hai brought Poliwhirl to the lakeshore and arranged Water- and Fighting-type items around it, including a Top-tier Water Stone.
  • Yu Hai had the Water-type Pokémon create a curtain of rain with Water Gun while Poliwhirl stood beneath it.
  • Poliwhirl caught the Water Stone and began absorbing its energy, bathing the area in blinding white light.
  • Riolu approached Poliwhirl and shared its Aura, sharpening Poliwhirl's perception as its body grew taller and stronger.

Ch. 661Poliwrath

Poliwhirl evolved into Poliwrath after its clash with Riolu helped it understand Aura, while Yu Hai assessed the evolution’s costs and new strength. On the way to MikanGym, Yu Hai left Riolu at the Orchard, where Farfetch'd urged it to find its own purpose; Riolu listened and drifted into a peaceful but uncertain rest.

  • Poliwhirl evolved into a tall, powerful Poliwrath and helped Riolu understand that the energy it sensed was Aura.
  • Yu Hai gathered the scattered evolution items, found most had been drained rather than destroyed, and checked Poliwrath’s increased Potential and Elite-level strength.
  • Yu Hai confirmed Magmar had regained control of its body heat, then prepared to leave for MikanGym with part of his team.
  • Yu Hai left Riolu at Dunmei’s Orchard with Farfetch'd and continued toward the Gym with Pelipper.
  • Farfetch'd told Riolu about its own hatred of humans and explained how it had chosen to protect the Orchard and its companions.
  • Riolu listened to Farfetch'd, rested beneath a citrus tree, and wondered what it wanted to do as its breathing settled and its heart remained unsettled.

Ch. 663Reuniting with Familiar Faces

Yu Hai arranged for Dunmei's Father to train his Slowpoke, then took leave from MikanGym to seek Pokémon for combination evolution. Before leaving, he encountered Ash's group and agreed to demonstrate MikanGym's unusual challenge, beginning with Poliwrath's disc-throwing test.

  • Yu Hai gave his Slowpoke to Dunmei's Father for training and decided to seek combination-evolution Pokémon while Mewtwo watched over the clone Pokémon at the Lakeside Cabin.
  • Yu Hai secured indefinite leave from Dunmei and prepared to depart MikanGym.
  • Yu Hai stopped Ash and Ada from battling, recognized Ash's group, and accepted Ash's Gym challenge.
  • Yu Hai explained the disc-throwing and surfing rounds, then signed Chikenn's drawing paper after Chikenn recognized him as the Indigo League Champion.
  • Yu Hai demonstrated the disc test with Poliwrath, which shattered a disc with Water Gun and left Ash impressed by its evolution and strength.

Ch. 664The Rising Wind

Ash lost the MikanGym challenge when Squirtle failed the blindfolded target test against Yu Hai’s Poliwrath, then resolved to catch a Water- and Psychic-type Pokémon and return. Yu Hai prepared to leave the Lakeside Cabin, and Farfetch'd revealed that Riolu might want to accompany him.

  • Ash and Squirtle hit the early targets, but Poliwrath outperformed them in the blindfolded round by striking five discs without seeing them.
  • Xiao Xia explained Squirtle’s disadvantage to Ash, who decided to visit other Gyms, catch a Psychic- and Water-type Pokémon, and challenge MikanGym again.
  • Yu Hai left food and instructions for the clone Pokémon at the Lakeside Cabin before heading to the Gym with Pelipper.
  • At the Orchard, Farfetch'd led Yu Hai to Riolu and indicated that Riolu wanted to go with him.

Ch. 665Departure

Yu Hai gained Riolu’s trust, and Riolu evolved into Lucario before agreeing to travel with him. After arranging care for the Pokémon remaining at the Gym and giving Dunmei Escargot, Yu Hai left by ship for Jinggan Island to meet Luo Yan and prepare his plan.

  • Farfetch'd encouraged Yu Hai to invite Riolu along, and Riolu accepted after making a pinky promise with him.
  • Riolu evolved into Lucario, who agreed to join Yu Hai and entered its Poké Ball.
  • Yu Hai reviewed Lucario’s new abilities and moves, then told Farfetch'd goodbye and left the Orchard on Pelipper.
  • At the Gym, Yu Hai left Pokémon in Dunmei’s care and gave her Escargot; Dunmei blushed while Ada teased her.
  • Yu Hai boarded a cargo ship for Jinggan Island, where he planned to meet Luo Yan and begin a scheme to keep Team Rocket and the League from watching them closely.

Ch. 667Returning to Sunburst Island

Yu Hai arranged for A Man’s Fishing Village to catch Sharp-toothed Fish and Cloyster, then traveled to Sunburst Island to find a Diglett and buy a Magnemite. He found a Magnemite with acceptable Potential and caught over a hundred Diglett without finding a promising one, leaving him camped by a river as he assessed Marshtomp and his alternate identity’s battle team.

  • Yu Hai hired A Man’s Fishing Village to catch Sharp-toothed Fish and Cloyster for two thousand League Coins each, and told A Man to hold the Pokémon until he returned.
  • Yu Hai went to Sunburst Island after Luo Yan reminded him that its Onix habitats should also hold Diglett, while the group at the villa returned to their usual work and training.
  • Yu Hai visited the island’s Magnemite Ranch, searched more than a thousand Magnemite, and bought one with Potential of fifty-one for five hundred thousand League Coins.
  • Yu Hai entered an Onix-dug cave with his Pokémon and caught over a hundred Diglett, but found none with Potential above fifty.
  • Yu Hai camped beside a river, bathed with his Water-type Pokémon, and checked Marshtomp’s panel, noting that it was ready to evolve and could become his alternate identity’s vanguard.

Ch. 668Swampert

Yu Hai prepared Marshtomp for evolution, and it became Swampert after absorbing Water- and Ground-type items. He welcomed the newly evolved Lucario into the group, then left camp to catch Diglett while Poliwhirl stayed behind to protect the younger Pokémon.

  • Yu Hai watched Marshtomp break a tree with a Waterfall burst and Ice Punch, then gave it a Water Stone and Elite-level Soft Sand to evolve.
  • Marshtomp evolved into Swampert, whose status showed 77% Potential and a level just below Veteran Class.
  • Yu Hai reassured Pidgeotto, Swampert, Accelgor, and Magmar, then encouraged Lucario to join the others and share Energy Cubes.
  • Lucario mingled with the group, while Poliwhirl explained that Toxicroak kept its distance because its skin was poisonous.
  • Yu Hai left with Toxicroak, Pelipper, Gengar, Spinarak, and Ditto to catch Diglett, leaving Poliwhirl to guard the camp.
  • Lucario watched Yu Hai depart and resolved to grow stronger so it could protect the younger Pokémon.

Ch. 670Onix Nest

Yu Hai searched the Diglett tunnels, caught a Diglett with Potential fifty-four, and escaped an underground cave filled with sleeping Onix. He planned to return to Jinggan Island to pursue combination evolution and arrange Pidgeotto's evolution.

  • Yu Hai reviewed training plans for Magmar, Poliwrath, Swampert, and Lucario, deciding Lucario should begin with Aura sensing, endurance, and burst training.
  • Yu Hai encountered an Onix moving through the tunnel and caught Diglett disturbed along its trail.
  • Yu Hai found an Underground Cave crowded with sleeping Onix and Diglett, then caught a Diglett with Potential fifty-four.
  • Yu Hai left the cave quickly to avoid waking the Onix and returned to camp safely.
  • Yu Hai planned to return to Jinggan Island, buy a Magnemite, research combination evolution, and arrange Pidgeotto's evolution.

Ch. 671Gathered

Yu Hai returned to Jinggan Island and secretly obtained a Magnemite from the Power Plant, completing his set of three Magnemite and three Diglett. He prepared to test combining the six Pokémon into evolved forms.

  • Yu Hai flew back to Jinggan Island and asked A Xiang to help him find a Magnemite at the Power Plant.
  • Yu Hai and A Xiang disguised themselves as employees and entered the Power Plant’s energy storage warehouse.
  • Yu Hai selected a Magnemite with fifty Potential and the move Gravity, then paid the employee five hundred thousand in cash for it.
  • Yu Hai returned to the villa and gathered the Poké Balls of his three Magnemite and three Diglett.
  • Yu Hai prepared to test combination evolutions and planned to use low-grade Electric-type, Steel-type, and Ground-type resources first.

Ch. 672Organizing Resources

Yu Hai sorted through his remaining resources and chose the types of items needed for his Pokémon’s future growth. He began experimenting with combination evolution for three Magnemite, leaving them attached to a powered strip as Evolution Light appeared.

  • Yu Hai sorted his accumulated items, deciding to keep useful evolution resources and sell surplus goods.
  • Yu Hai identified Electric- and Steel-type items for Magnemite, Ground- and Rock-type items for Diglett, and Water-, Psychic-, and Ice-type items for Slowpoke and Cloyster.
  • Yu Hai released the three Magnemite, offered them Electric Gems and Energy Cubes, and used Gengar’s dark aura to persuade them to follow him.
  • Yu Hai appointed the Magnemite that knew Gravity as their leader and planned to evolve them in a special magnetic field on Thunder Island while visiting Zapdos’s territory.
  • Yu Hai had the three Magnemite hold Electric Gems, clasp hands, and attach themselves to exposed power-strip wires, triggering sparks and Evolution Light.
