Yu Hai spent the day preparing food for his Pokémon and overseeing their training aboard the passenger ship. As the ship approached Orange Island, he reflected on how time travel had rewritten everyone’s futures, then set off to eat and search for materials Lucario needed.

• Yu Hai fed Accelgor honey paste mixed with honeycomb and Beedrill Twineedle powder, while Scizor and Forretress ate food mixed with Metal Powder.
• Yu Hai prepared meals for his Pokémon throughout the day, and Dragonair stayed close to him while Umbreon pretended to faint to get his attention.
• Yu Hai fed Swinub and the other Pokémon dinner, then left the training room and met A Long, Xiao Yu, and A Long’s wife.
• Yu Hai declined A Long’s dinner invitation and watched the ship approach Orange Island as he considered how time travel had changed his and others’ futures.

Yu Hai arrived at Cinnabar Island and brought Xiao Yu and her mother to Blaine’s Gym under a cover story, while A Long stayed behind to establish a home for his family. After reconnecting Blaine with Yanbo, Yu Hai asked Blaine for advice on training Electivire, whose progress had reached a bottleneck.

• Yu Hai arranged for A Long’s family to rent a house in Cinnabar Town and took Xiao Yu and her mother up the mountain to stay at the Cinnabar Gym.

• Toxicroak broke through to the Elite Four as its pressure stirred a hurricane, and Yu Hai used Gengar’s Confusion to keep Cobalion’s horn from being swept away.

After dividing the spoils and selling the criminal’s possessions, Yu Hai met his subordinates in an alley, where Xiao Feng asked to buy some Relic Fossil shell material.

• Yu Hai recalled the defeated Pokémon, woke A Long and Xiao Feng, and flew with them toward Cinnabar Island, extinguishing the forest fires with Pelipper’s Rain Dance.
• At the beach, A Long and Xiao Feng interrogated the wanted criminal and learned he was a Sinnoh fugitive working for Lamuda; they also reported that Harry’s Team Rocket group was trying to capture Articuno on the Seafoam Islands.

• Yu Hai told Professor Oak, Blaine, Delia, and Ai's Mother that Ash and Ai might have Rainbow Feathers and had gone searching for Ho-Oh.
• Ai's Mother and Blaine confirmed that Ai had a Rainbow Feather, while Delia could not recall Ash having one; Gary argued that Ash would pursue Ho-Oh regardless.
• Professor Oak found a legend linking Rainbow Feathers to challenges from Entei, Raikou, and Suicune before a journey to Tianqing Mountain, and decided to search there.

• Yu Hai released Poliwrath, Toxicroak, and Lucario to absorb the Horn Energy, then went to dinner with Nanami.

• Ash’s group recruited Brock in Pewter City and Xiao Xia at the Cerulean Gym while traveling toward the mountain forests in search of Ho-Oh.

After waiting at Tianqing Mountain, Yu Hai and the others saw the Rainbow Stone activate and rushed to the summit. They arrived to find Ash and Cross battling over the Rainbow Feather.

• Yu Hai and A Long heard explosions from the summit and saw a seven-colored glow rise into the sky.
• Yu Hai recognized that the Rainbow Feather had activated the Rainbow Stone and flew back to camp to alert everyone.
• Blaine and Professor Oak used a Psychic-type Pokémon to Teleport the group to Tianqing Mountain's summit.
• The group found Ash's Charizard fighting Cross's Incineroar for the Rainbow Feather.

Ash defeated Cross’s Incineroar, but Cross’s attempt to use the Rainbow Feather turned it into a Black Feather and unleashed Marshadow’s dark power. As Wild Pokémon fell under its control and closed in on the group, Yu Hai sent out Poliwrath and Electivire to fight back.

• Ash’s Charizard overwhelmed Cross’s Incineroar with Flamethrower and won the battle, while Marshadow watched from above.
• Cross angrily challenged Ash’s bond with Pokémon, then snatched the Rainbow Feather and tried to place it on the Rainbow Stone.
• The Rainbow Feather blackened in Cross’s hands, dark energy engulfed the Rainbow Stone, and Marshadow knocked Cross aside before seizing the feather.
• Cross ordered Lycanroc to attack Marshadow, but Marshadow’s aura took control of Lycanroc, which turned on Cross; the darkness then began controlling nearby Wild Pokémon.
• Yu Hai sent out Poliwrath and Electivire and ordered Electivire to use Thunder and Poliwrath to use Focus Punch.

Yu Hai and the others fought Marshadow’s controlled Wild Pokémon while Ai and Ash tried to use the Rainbow Feathers to summon Ho-Oh. Although Poliwrath knocked Marshadow away and Ash’s feather regained its light, the sky, land, and Rainbow Stone remained unchanged.

• Electivire and Poliwrath struck down many controlled Wild Pokémon as Yu Hai urged Ai to use her Rainbow Feather and Ash to make up for his mistakes.
• Ash, Xiao Mai, Xiao Yu, Brock, Xiao Xia, and Gary released their Pokémon to help face the Wild Pokémon, while Agatha and Xiao Qian arrived to watch.
• Yu Hai directed Poliwrath to use Belly Drum and attack Marshadow as Ai climbed the Rainbow Stone.
• Poliwrath hit Marshadow with Knock Off and sent it crashing into a mountainside, freeing the Rainbow Feather Marshadow had taken.
