Ch. 169A Mayfly Struggling Desperately

Yu Hai counted his remaining money, reflected on the dangers and costs of becoming a powerful Trainer, and made plans to disguise himself while selling the Spirit Hunter’s belongings. After sorting his gear, he gave Poliwhirl and the others two kinds of milk to compare, and Poliwhirl discovered that Moomoo Milk made her feel warm and energized.

  • Yu Hai tallied his expenses and remaining League Coins, then considered how few ordinary Trainers could afford to reach the Elite Four.
  • Yu Hai decided to conceal his identity when selling the Spirit Hunter’s Pokémon and belongings, and formed a plan for his disguise.
  • Yu Hai sorted the Spirit Hunter’s equipment and selected Pokémon-related goods for sale, keeping the items he intended to dispose of separate from his own supplies.
  • Yu Hai released Poliwhirl and Butterfree, then set out ordinary milk and Moomoo Milk for Poliwhirl, Butterfree, and Spinarak to try.
  • Poliwhirl drank both kinds of milk and found that Moomoo Milk tasted better and left her feeling warm and full of energy.

Ch. 170Back to the Black Market

Yu Hai tested food and Poké Balls with his Pokémon, then packed up and prepared to fly to the shore before visiting the Black Market. He left with Spinarak on his shoulder and Pelipper ready to carry him.

  • Yu Hai let Poliwhirl, Butterfree, and Spinarak compare Moomoo Milk with regular milk, and all three preferred Moomoo Milk.
  • Butterfree and Spinarak tried Bug-type Energy Cubes while Yu Hai checked their purity; Poliwhirl rejected one and waited for Water-type food.
  • Poliwhirl chose the Dive Ball because its humidity felt comfortable, and Yu Hai assigned the Net Ball to Butterfree.
  • Yu Hai packed his supplies, put Spinarak on his shoulder, and released Pelipper on the balcony to fly to the shore before going to the Black Market.

Ch. 171The Darkness of the World

Yu Hai erased the traces of his previous actions, returned to the Underground Black Market, and began investigating prices so he could sell the Pokémon he had taken from Spirit Hunters. He examined a Magneton at a street stall, leaving its value and the sale of his own Pokémon unresolved.

  • Yu Hai burned his sleeping bag and foam box on the beach, had Pelipper dispose of his other trash, and washed the remaining traces into the sea.
  • Yu Hai entered the Black Market through the back door of Midnight Bar, gave the waitress five thousand League Coins for Old Man, and reminded her not to make a sound.
  • Old Man recognized that Yu Hai had returned and sent the frightened waitress home to rest.
  • Yu Hai went to the street-stall area to learn black-market prices for adult Pokémon and the Pokémon he had taken from Spirit Hunters.
  • Yu Hai asked a masked stall owner for permission to inspect a Magneton priced at four million and picked up its Poké Ball.

Ch. 172Cannot Flaunt Wealth

Yu Hai surveyed the Black Market to estimate Pokémon prices and found that Electric-types were heavily marked up. After hearing several groups plan to rob a stall owner, he avoided the brewing conflict and continued his research.

  • Yu Hai examined a Magneton priced at four million and an Electric-type Pokémon Egg, then left the stall without asking about the price.
  • Yu Hai visited stalls selling Electric-type Pokémon and found their prices far above those at the Electric-type Breeding House.
  • Yu Hai heard masked customers discuss robbing the owner of a Veteran Class Electabuzz priced at ten million League Coins.
  • Yu Hai moved away from the stall after hearing several groups conspire to rob its owner.
  • Yu Hai checked prices for other Pokémon and items, including Gyarados, Golbat, an injured Mankey, Space Backpacks, and Magnets.

Ch. 173A Ten-Million Deal

Yu Hai inspected the Black Market and chose its Electric-type Breeding House to sell Electabuzz. After the manager’s device measured Electabuzz at Veteran Peak rather than Elite-level, Yu Hai asked why it had failed to detect Electabuzz’s Elite-level energy.

  • Yu Hai found no worthwhile training books and concluded that the Black Market’s Pokémon Cubs were specially selected rather than ordinary blank-slate stock.
  • Yu Hai entered the Electric-type Breeding House and demanded that Manager Jin handle his deal, threatening the saleswoman until she fetched him.
  • Yu Hai told Manager Jin he had a deal worth tens of millions and revealed Electabuzz as the Pokémon he wanted to sell.
  • Manager Jin tested Electabuzz and found its internal energy at Veteran Peak, below Elite-level, while noting its breeding value and injuries.
  • Yu Hai knocked on the table and asked Manager Jin why the device had failed to detect Electabuzz’s Elite-level energy.

Ch. 174One Phone Call

Yu Hai negotiated over selling his Elite-level Electabuzz at the Electric-type Breeding House, but the manager initially offered only seven million. A call from the main store changed the deal: the general manager ordered the manager to acquire Yu Hai’s Electabuzz for up to fifteen million because Electabuzz had a newly discovered evolution.

  • Yu Hai told the mustached manager that his Electabuzz had Elite-level strength and named a price of fifteen million.
  • The mustached manager offered seven million, his stated limit, and Yu Hai considered whether to accept.
  • The main store’s general manager called and ordered the manager to buy a Veteran Class Electabuzz for up to ten million.
  • The mustached manager described Yu Hai’s stronger Electabuzz and its moves, prompting the general manager to authorize a purchase for up to fifteen million.
  • The general manager revealed Electabuzz’s newly discovered evolution and ordered the manager to secure both Electabuzz before he arrived.

Ch. 175Six Pokémon

Yu Hai used the manager’s sudden interest in Electabuzz to infer that its third-stage evolution had been discovered, then presented six Pokémon for appraisal. The manager tested them, believing Yu Hai might have defeated an Elite-level Trainer, while Yu Hai remained careful not to reveal what he knew.

  • The little-mustached manager returned from his phone call and tried to keep Yu Hai from leaving, despite Yu Hai refusing to sell Electabuzz for seven million.
  • Yu Hai tested the manager’s interest by bringing out Magneton and realized Electabuzz’s third-stage evolution was likely behind the manager’s urgency.
  • The little-mustached manager tried to regain control of the negotiation, but Yu Hai placed six Pokémon and the item Magnet on the table and asked whether the shop could handle them.
  • The manager feared the Pokémon came from a defeated Elite-level Trainer and cautiously asked permission to test their energy levels.
  • Yu Hai told the manager the six Pokémon included three Elite-level Pokémon, two Veteran Class Pokémon, and one Elite-level Pokémon, then let him test them.

Ch. 176Awkward Enough to Curl His Toes

Yu Hai sold six Pokémon and a Magnet to Manager Jin for forty-one million League Coins, then received a Bearer Bank Card and began shopping as a Gold Card VIP. He bought no Energy Cubes yet, but asked the salesgirl to show him the premium Water-type and Bug-type varieties.

  • Manager Jin tested Yu Hai’s six Pokémon and Magnet, then offered forty-one million in total, which Yu Hai accepted.
  • Manager Jin transferred thirty million League Coins to a Bearer Bank Card and kept the remaining eleven million for Yu Hai’s later purchases.
  • Yu Hai left the private room, and Manager Jin assigned the Black-stocking Salesgirl to guide him around the store while he handled another customer.
  • Yu Hai asked the salesgirl for Water-type and Bug-type Energy Cubes, and she showed him premium Aqua and Emerald varieties at Gold Card prices.

Ch. 177Buying, Buying, Buying

Yu Hai spent lavishly at the Black Market, buying supplies, food, gems, and Poké Balls for his Pokémon while asking about stronger items and training knowledge. After learning that advanced resources and training were scarce or monopolized, he asked to see the Pokémon and whether the store had any Starters.

  • Yu Hai ordered large quantities of Energy Cubes, milk, and Pokémon-exclusive snacks for his Water- and Bug-type Pokémon.
  • Yu Hai bought thirty tons of ore and two hundred Mineral Lure Balls for Hana Hana, then ordered three each of Water, Rock, and Ground Gems.
  • Yu Hai learned that the store had no high-grade Water Stones or Elite-level Mystic Water, and offered six million League Coins for its Veteran Class Mystic Water.
  • Yu Hai ordered Heal Balls, Dive Balls, a Net Ball, and a Rock Ball, then asked about training books with fewer side effects.
  • Yu Hai learned that advanced training knowledge was difficult to obtain and asked the saleswoman to take him to see the Pokémon and check whether the store had any Starters.

Ch. 178Electabuzz?

Yu Hai inspected the Breeding House’s Water-type Starters but rejected them as too weak and expensive. After buying supplies, he spotted the masked vendor who had sold Electabuzz and wondered whether he should raise one himself.

  • Yu Hai examined a Mudkip and a Squirtle, checked their Proficiency Panels, and decided their Potential was too low to buy.
  • The saleswoman explained that the store sold only its own bred Starters and described how League Starters were marked and protected.
  • Yu Hai looked around the store, selected supplies, and noticed the masked vendor who had sold Electabuzz leaving after an unhappy meeting with the mustached manager.
  • Yu Hai considered buying an Electabuzz, then checked his purchase list and paid twelve million League Coin after the manager discounted the total.
  • The mustached manager returned Yu Hai’s cards and invited him to check his purchases before leaving.

Ch. 179Breeding House Layout

Yu Hai left the Black Market with his purchases, while the Electric-type Breeding House’s general manager investigated his Electabuzz and realized its evolution secret might soon spread. The general manager planned to evolve an Electivire and ordered Fatty Jin to track Yu Hai through his store-issued bank card.

  • Yu Hai packed his purchases into four Space Backpacks, warned the mustached manager not to cause trouble, and escaped the Black Market on Pelipper.
  • The general manager reviewed the Breeding House’s bills, praised Fatty Jin, and learned that Yu Hai had arrived without any Pokémon and had refused to lower the price of his Electabuzz.
  • The general manager concluded that Electabuzz’s further evolution might not stay secret and set out to evolve an Electivire to profit from breeding and trading the evolution method.
  • The general manager told Fatty Jin to alert him if Yu Hai used his Gold Card, and Fatty Jin revealed the store could track Yu Hai through his Bearer Bank Card.

Ch. 180Casino

Yu Hai burned the Spirit Hunter’s disguise and risky cards, then used a casino transfer to move thirty million League Coins into a new Bearer Bank Card. The old man connected him with his grandson at the Orphanage to learn Poliwhirl’s raising method, and Yu Hai returned to his hotel resolved to settle down and inspect his Pokémon and belongings the next day.

  • Yu Hai burned the Spirit Hunter’s clothes and bank card, discarded the gold discount card, and arranged for Pelipper to erase the traces.
  • Yu Hai asked the old man how to transfer money without being traced and agreed to trade Poliwhirl’s raising method for his help.
  • Yu Hai and the old man used the casino to move thirty million League Coins into a new Bearer Bank Card, losing about one million to fees.
  • The old man told Yu Hai that his grandson, the boy who had delivered the ID card, had a Poliwhirl and could learn the raising method at the Orphanage.
  • Yu Hai warned the old man to keep the transfer untraceable, then returned to the hotel and planned to examine his Pokémon and deal with his backpacks and supplies the next day.

Ch. 181Little Charms

Yu Hai fed his Pokémon and gave several of them new Poké Balls, while Butterfree and Poliwhirl enjoyed the charms he had hung on his backpack. After checking out of the hotel, he headed to the Department Store to deal with his extra backpacks before taking the Pokémon for physical examinations.

  • Yu Hai served lunch and premium Energy Cubes to six of his Pokémon, and Slowpoke began to feel at home with the group.
  • Yu Hai hung Butterfree and Poliwhirl charms on his backpack, soothed jealous Pelipper, and promised to get charms for the others later.
  • Yu Hai asked Poliwhirl about using a Dive Ball, then recalled Butterfree, Slowpoke, Kingler, and Pelipper into new Poké Balls.
  • Yu Hai checked out of the hotel with Poliwhirl and Spinarak and left for the Department Store to deal with his backpacks.

Ch. 182Residence

Yu Hai bought new gear and had a set of Sharpedo-hide clothing made before heading to the west side of the city. He rented a seaside house for three months, planning to stay on the island for a while.

  • Yu Hai bought a large backpack, clothes, a watch, hiking boots, and stab-proof T-shirts from shops in the Department Store.
  • Yu Hai gave the counterfeit-goods shop owner Sharpedo hide, agreed to use the owner's softened hide instead, and received a jacket and pants made from it.
  • Yu Hai bought household supplies, and the shop owner gave him an address for someone who could make a Sharpedo-tooth pendant.
  • Yu Hai went to the west side of the city and decided to rent a quiet seaside house with a swimming pool, away from the port, Black Market, and Pokémon Center.
  • Yu Hai withdrew cash and rented the seaside house for three months at one hundred thousand League Coin per month.

Ch. 183The Long-Awaited Sunset

Yu Hai rented a seaside house and settled in with his Pokémon, who explored and cleaned their new home before they watched the sunset together. Farfetch'd remained hostile and confused about his weakness, while Yu Hai organized supplies and destroyed items that could reveal his past.

  • Yu Hai recognized Oddish Orphanage as the address on his ID, spotted Skinny training Poliwhirl, and decided to visit the children and old director later.
  • Yu Hai rented a furnished seaside house, released his Pokémon, and sent several of them to inspect it while Rhyhorn, Magikarp, and Wishiwashi ate.
  • Yu Hai declared the house their new home and had Poliwhirl, Kingler, Pelipper, and the others drain and clean the dirty swimming pool.
  • Yu Hai and his Pokémon watched the sunset together, while Farfetch'd reflected on his weakness and hatred of humans before falling asleep and being recalled.
  • Yu Hai fed the Pokémon, reorganized his Space Backpacks, and burned two empty backpacks, food packaging, the Spirit Hunter's face covering, and his old cloth shoes.

Ch. 184You've Been Targeted

Yu Hai commissioned a Sharpedo tooth pendant and a custom wristguard for Poliwhirl, then sold Poison-type materials and a backpack at the old man's tavern. The old man warned him that Strong Man's older brother was targeting him, and Yu Hai left for the Pokémon Center while Strong Man arrived too late to catch him.

  • Yu Hai paid a craftsman to make a silver-mounted Sharpedo tooth pendant and a fireproof, cut-resistant wristguard for Poliwhirl, with the Mystic Water protected inside.
  • Yu Hai sold Black Sludge, Poison Needle, and a hundred-cubic-meter backpack to the old man for three hundred thousand League Coin.
  • The old man warned Yu Hai that Strong Man's older brother had three Pokémon, including Primeape, Machoke, and Breloom, and might hire outside help.
  • Yu Hai accepted the warning and rode Pelipper toward the Pokémon Center to have his Pokémon examined.
  • Strong Man arrived at the tavern after Yu Hai had left and paid the old man ten thousand League Coin to learn that Yu Hai had come to sell goods.

Ch. 185Target

Yu Hai treated his Pokémon, returned to his seaside house, and learned from television that he was in the Orange Islands and Indigo League world. After watching a high-level battle with Poliwhirl, he reaffirmed his ambition to win tournaments and rise to the Elite Four or Champion.

  • Yu Hai paid for full examinations and treatment for his ten Pokémon, then bought a week’s worth of supplies and flew home on Pelipper.
  • Yu Hai released his Pokémon at the seaside house and told Poliwhirl not to battle the injured Farfetch'd while it recovered.
  • Yu Hai watched Drake win a televised match and realized he was in the Orange Islands version of the Pokémon world, where he might meet Ash, Xiao Xia, and Brock.
  • Yu Hai watched an Indigo League semifinal with his Pokémon and judged that his team was not yet strong enough to compete at that level.
  • Poliwhirl asked whether it could compete in a tournament, and Yu Hai said they would train until they could aim for the Champion title and, eventually, the Elite Four.

Ch. 186Taking the First Step

Yu Hai’s Pokémon decided they wanted to train and compete alongside him, while he carefully calculated his expenses and their food supplies. With more than a million League Coins left and months of supplies secured, he looked forward to training, visiting the orphanage, and hiring a Breeder.

  • Poliwhirl asked the others if they wanted to take part, and Butterfree, Kingler, Pelipper, Rhyhorn, Spinarak, and Slowpoke joined in while Farfetch'd stayed apart.
  • Yu Hai patted Farfetch'd’s head and urged him to watch television with the others, then went outside to calculate his spending.
  • Farfetch'd froze at the touch and later followed Slowpoke to the living room, where he watched Yu Hai instead of the battle on television.
  • Yu Hai tallied his purchases at 445,000 League Coins and calculated that he still had 1,011,000 left.
  • Yu Hai worked out how long the Pokémon’s food would last and concluded that most supplies would last at least four months.
  • Yu Hai planned to train his Pokémon, visit the orphanage the next day, and hire a professional Breeder to give the Pokémon massages.

Ch. 187"I Want to Be a Good Person"

Yu Hai visited the Oddish Orphanage to meet its old director and complete the rest of his records, arriving with gifts for the children and pretending to be a former orphan. He explained that he had come from a distant place beyond the League’s control, where he had grown tired of the law of the jungle.

  • Yu Hai bought refurbished clothes, Pokémon dolls, snacks, candy, and books at the harbor Flea Market before flying to the Oddish Orphanage.
  • The children’s Pokémon owners blocked Yu Hai at the entrance until he released Poliwhirl and greeted the old director as A Hai.
  • The old director played along with Yu Hai’s story, and Yu Hai gave candy to the children, winning their attention and entering the Orphanage.
  • The old director asked whether the Old Drunkard had sent Yu Hai, and Yu Hai said he had come to complete the rest of his records.
  • Yu Hai told the old director that he had come from a distant place outside the League’s control and was exhausted by its law-of-the-jungle ways.

Ch. 188He Really Was an Orphan

Yu Hai donated money and supplies to the Orphanage, then let his Pokémon play with the children. Watching them together, he reflected on his own isolation and resolved to help his Pokémon adjust to human society.

  • The old director agreed to help Yu Hai complete his identity records and warned him not to commit crimes under the Orphanage's address.
  • Yu Hai gave the old director five hundred thousand League Coins and donated clothes, toys, books, candy, and snacks for the children.
  • The old director distributed the clothes and toys while the children thanked Yu Hai and celebrated their gifts.
  • A skinny boy silently accused Yu Hai of being a liar, but Yu Hai decided he would not take the troublemaker along.
  • Yu Hai released Poliwhirl, Pelipper, Butterfree, Slowpoke, and Kingler to play with the children.
  • Yu Hai recognized that he and his Pokémon felt alienated from the world and decided to help them adapt to human society through the children.
