They were eating cakes kneaded from blue algae ground into powder. Neither of them spoke, making the cave seem so quiet.

They were Norman and Beatrice, an exiled man and woman.

"She's a monster," the man suddenly said. "Just like her brother... even more terrifying."

"I can't remember what he looked like anymore." The woman lowered her head and spoke softly, as if blaming and resenting him. "I didn't even get to see him once before you people snatched him away... snatched him away! And then killed him!"

She suddenly grew agitated, her voice like thunder exploding inside the cramped cave.

"Keep your voice down. Do you want to wake her... this monster?" the man said urgently. He even stepped forward, covering the woman's mouth with one hand as he stared hard into her eyes.

There was a small bed made of straw, scraps of hide, and algae, resembling a bird's nest.

On the little bed, a pair of eyes hidden beneath the animal hide stared at the two of them from within the cave. They were curved like a new moon, unlike human eyes.

The man abruptly rose to his feet, his face cold. He walked up to her and raised a bone ax ground from bone.

She realized what the man wanted to do and screamed, "Are you insane?!"

"We'll die!" the man replied in a hushed voice. "She's a monster!"

The moment he finished speaking, the man gritted his teeth, reached into the animal-hide blanket, pulled her out, and lifted her up.
