"Do you think they went up this staircase?"
The group was standing in front of the station stairs, discussing the disappearance of Katz and Taromaru.
There were only the path they had come from, the other end of the railway, and the stairway leading to the upper level of the underground station. Katz and Taromaru had no reason to turn back.
As for the other end of the railway, no one knew how long it would take to reach the next station. So the most likely possibility was that the two of them had gone ahead to explore.
"Logically speaking, even if they went ahead, they should have left some kind of sign." Mr. Sunny was rather puzzled. "They normally wouldn't leave without saying anything... Maybe something happened? Z, what do you think?"
"Let's go up and take a look." Z thought for a moment. "We were going to explore upward anyway... But let's try not to split up."
Remia looked at the escalator passage leading upward. It had long since broken down and stopped, yet she had an inexplicable feeling of unease.
Because the platform of this underground station was far too quiet.
The passage was unexpectedly long, which meant the underground station was buried very deep. Still, the remaining members of the traveling group and Remia were finally close to reaching the end.
"Look, there's light!"
The light at the end was almost dazzling. To Remia, who had grown accustomed to the dim surroundings and relied solely on firelight and oil lamps, it was as if she had seen the sun after being deprived of it for a long time.
But the sky over the entire city was gray and gloomy, and gray snow had never stopped falling... In this utterly silent world, how could sunlight appear?
