The legends of the Golden City and Golden Lake had circulated across the American Continent for hundreds of years. For centuries, explorers from every country had arrived one after another, yet from beginning to end, no one had ever seen the true face of the Golden City that had sunk into Golden Lake.
Perhaps only the emperor of the Inca Empire who had built the Golden City, as told in the legends, had ever truly glimpsed the entire city.
A small temporary camp had been set up in the jungle. The Golden City archaeological team consisted of twenty-three people, led by an archaeology professor named Doroin.
At that moment, Professor Doroin was in the tent conferring with his assistant, an indigenous guide familiar with the local jungle, and a retired soldier responsible for the team's security.
They had been in the jungle for twenty days. They had reached Golden Lake long ago, but they had not found the slightest clue about the Golden City.
Many years ago, the local government had dispatched troops to protect Golden Lake, preventing illegal exploration. But even the military had its limits, and quite a few people still secretly slipped into the restricted area. As time passed, the local government's supervision of the place had greatly declined.
