The old woman's emergency treatment went smoothly. Meanwhile, back in the village, Mr. Isam's child's high fever had also gone down.
This was all wonderful news.
However, because of the medication, the old woman had yet to regain consciousness. Charlotte's expression was no longer tense, though, clearly showing that she had put her mind at ease.
"Charlotte, if there's nothing else, I'll head back first." Mr. Isam walked into the ward. "When the old woman is discharged, I'll come back to pick her up."
"Sorry for the trouble, Mr. Isam," Charlotte said gratefully.
Mr. Isam gave a hearty laugh. "It was nothing... Oh, right. If you run into any difficulties with the expenses, be sure to tell me. I'll go back and figure something out for you."
Charlotte smiled. "Don't worry about the expenses. I've already contacted the church here. The cathedral is willing to cover the old woman's treatment."
"Oh... That's really wonderful." Mr. Isam nodded and sighed with emotion. "It seems faith really is a good thing."
Charlotte smiled. "If mutual aid between people disappeared, we probably would have disappeared long ago as well."
"That's true." Mr. Isam nodded.
Charlotte stood up, placed her palm on Mr. Isam's forehead, and gave him a blessing. Of course, unlike Big Stone's visible blessings, this was merely a simple ritual.
Or rather, it was a blessing of the heart.
Before leaving, Mr. Isam suddenly said, "Oh, right. That child is still outside... Should I take her back with me? I find her a little strange. Should I help look after her for a few days?"
Charlotte could only say, "That child can't go too far from me and the old woman... It's fine. I'll go find her later."
