After rendezvousing, they donned their gear, then set off in formation! The group of four, bundled in down jackets and goggles, set out on small snowmobiles into the biting wind dozens of degrees below zero.
They soon arrived at the edge of a glacial cliff in a small valley.
"The snowmobiles can't get down here!"
"I don't see anything unusual."
"Should we go down?"
"We'd have to go back for equipment. We can't get down there as we are."
"Why not just report back and say we found nothing unusual? Geological activity, my foot. The snow around here hasn't even been scattered—where would geological activity come from?"
Another person nodded in agreement. "Kunlun Station is so close to here, and the instruments haven't detected anything. Could the satellite be malfunctioning?"
Only the team leader shook his head and asked in a deep voice, "When have we ever received a task from back home with such a clearly specified target?"
"Hm?"
Everyone froze for a moment before finally realizing it.
They exchanged messages with home often enough in ordinary times, but they were usually about various experimental assignments. Even when there were task requirements, the specific details were generally left to this side to work out freely.
A sudden exploratory mission like this, especially one that named a precise location, really was a first.
"What did the satellite up there find?"
Someone asked uneasily, "There won't be any danger, will there?"
"Probably not. The notice didn't mention anything about watching out for safety."
"Huh, then that's strange."
"Even ordinary geological activity could pose a danger, couldn't it?"
"Forget it. Let's go down and take a look first. Old Liu and I will prepare here. You two go back and get the equipment."
