As the bell signaling the end of class rang, Professor Wang Taichu pushed open the office door, dropped his heavy body into a chair, and let out a weary sigh. The fat all over his body relaxed in comfort.
At the desk opposite him, Dean Cai of the Mathematics Department looked up and pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
"Professor Wang, you ended class early again? That won't do! The school regulations say class can't end until the bell rings!" Dean Cai said earnestly.
"I finished everything I needed to say. Why waste time in the classroom? Teaching is exhausting!" Wang Taichu took off his glasses and slowly wiped them.
"Since you finished, you could talk about something else. A whole classroom of students is waiting for you to teach, and you run off after half an hour every time. Aren't you letting down their expectations?" Dean Cai urged.
"Do undergraduates expect me to talk more? The students will only find me annoying! If I end class early, they'll adore me, and I'll save myself some effort."
Wang Taichu snorted and continued.
"How many undergraduates in the Mathematics Department genuinely want to devote themselves to mathematics? Weren't they all transferred here as a compromise? Every one of them is eager to change majors. Their greatest wish is to get their credits and leave as soon as possible!"
"Old Wang, you really are Jinghai University's laziest bum. Now you're even coming up with lofty excuses!" Dean Cai could no longer contain his anger. He slammed the desk and threatened, "End class early again, and I'll cut your bonus completely!"
"So be it. This old body can't be overworked." Wang Taichu adjusted his chair and sprawled out comfortably.
Someone suddenly knocked on the office door.
