Thousands of students wore bewildered expressions. Breaking news? What kind of news could make even the principal rush onto the stage, unable to keep his composure?
Before entering the auditorium, which held nearly ten thousand people, all the students had gone through security checks. The rules were just like those for an exam: electronic devices were not allowed inside.
Quite a few students instinctively reached into their pockets for their phones, only to remember after fumbling around that they had not brought them in. All they could do was look toward the stage and observe Professor Song's expression.
Professor Song was standing with his back to the light, making his face impossible to see clearly. But it was obvious that he was not smiling. During his earlier lecture, whenever he smiled, one could faintly see a row of white teeth. At that moment, however, there was only a dark face, hidden in the blind spot of the lighting.
He did not seem... happy?
The students in the Bioengineering Institute section immediately began whispering among themselves:
"Song He doesn't seem to be smiling. This must be bad news, right?"
"Most likely. If it were good news, he wouldn't have interrupted the lecture. He probably would have told us right away."
"That doesn't make sense. The principal worships Song He so much. Would he really publicly announce bad news?"
"Idiot. The principal has to appear neutral, at least on the surface. If Song He messed up, announcing the news would be the perfect chance for the principal to distance himself!"
The Brain Institute section was unusually quiet. Hundreds of eyes were fixed intently on the stage. No one was discussing anything—not because they had absolute faith in Professor Song, but because they were extremely tense!
