Everyone else had a lump of brain in their jar, but Li Zhengye's jar actually held four egg-sized lumps of brain tissue floating inside!
It would have been one thing if they were separate, but the key was that his four lumps of brain tissue were bound together. Each extended several octopus-like tentacles, every tentacle formed from countless brain cells and stretching toward the other brain tissues.
"I've recently been studying how differences in brain connectivity lead to differences in intelligence, and I came up with a new method on the spur of the moment!" Li Zhengye explained, touching the jar.
"I cultivated four pieces of brain tissue separately. Once they grew to a critical size, I brought them together, induced them to connect with one another, and fused them into a single whole!"
"The inspiration came from head trauma and human brain development. Certain unusual head injuries, such as stray-bullet wounds, can take away a small piece of brain tissue and leave a cavity in the brain. If the person is lucky enough to survive, the brain tissue has a chance of growing back and filling the gap, causing two pieces of brain tissue that were originally far apart to come into contact."
"Human brain development follows a similar pattern. As a child grows into an adult, the synaptic connections in the brain become more numerous and denser. After adulthood, however, the synapses in the brain gradually decline while some entirely new neural circuits are constructed..."
"So I tried fusing multiple brains into one, gambling that a miracle might happen! In fact, some very interesting phenomena have already appeared."
As he spoke, Li Zhengye picked up the culture jar and placed it inside the instrument.
Everyone crowded around the instrument's screen. Once again, they let out a low murmur
