After putting down the radio, Katerina exchanged glances with the bearded man. Both of them were somewhat astonished.
"He solved it that quickly?" the bearded man asked.
"No way. The letter must have said he couldn't solve it." Katerina's words were skeptical, but her expression was uneasy. She hurriedly turned and left the room.
A moment later, she returned with the envelope. Its thickness was clearly abnormal!
She opened it to find more than a dozen sheets of folded paper!
Katerina spread the papers across the table. As she stared at the densely packed solution steps, she sucked in a sharp breath.
The bearded man was shocked as well. "The letter was sent over and then sent back. Subtracting the time it spent on the road, he solved it in only four or five days?"
"Let's verify whether the steps and answer are correct first!" Katerina's face was filled with shock.
The two of them nervously bent over the table and began calculating frantically. Colleagues gradually arrived at work, and after hearing that there was an answer to the problem, they hurried over to join the verification. Soon, the whole room was in chaos.
Three hours later, they finished verifying the final step.
Katerina was utterly stunned. "The answer is correct! He really solved it!"
The room immediately erupted in excited applause, and the atmosphere turned jubilant!
Katerina hastily gathered the papers and folded the solution steps in order. She hurried out of the office, crossed the corridor, and stopped before the door at the end. Raising her hand, she pounded on it.
"Come in!" an aged voice called out.
Katerina pushed open the door and entered a room piled high with books and documents. The air was permeated with the smell of old age.
A stern, bald old man
