Jiraiya said with a grief-stricken expression, "It was my fault for failing to take good care of you all, but Yahiko's death isn't a reason for you to fall into darkness!"
"Jiraiya-sensei, your vision is too narrow." After a pause, Nagato said coldly, "One day, you'll understand that only my way can bring true peace to the ninja world. Only when I become the one and only God will war be completely eradicated!"
Having said that, Nagato spoke no further. He turned and walked toward Naruto and Fū.
As he turned around, he noticed that Sasuke had not only activated his Sharingan, but had awakened the conspicuous Three Tomoe Sharingan. Yet he did not care, and his gaze did not linger on Sasuke's Sharingan for even a second.
Jiraiya called out, "Why didn't you kill me?"
Nagato did not turn back this time. Without stopping, he said, "Because I want you to see with your own eyes that I'm right!"
The reason he had not decisively killed Jiraiya as he had in the original timeline was that, in that timeline, he had not transplanted the First Hokage Cells. His real body had been inconvenient to move and limited in combat ability, unable to fully wield the Rinnegan's power. Thus, he had been forced to ruthlessly kill the powerful Jiraiya, clearing the way for his later trip to Konoha to capture the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki.
But in this timeline, after transplanting the First Hokage Cells, he had gained a Sage Body close to that of the Sage of Six Paths. Not only had all his injuries and illnesses fully recovered, but he had also acquired the ability of "Wood Release." The Rinnegan in his eye sockets had likewise gained greatly enhanced ocular power. A mere Jiraiya was no longer worth his attention.
