Ch. 81Taking the Blame

Hyuga Kagami considered using his Truth-Seeking Orbs to break the seal on the Ryumyaku, but realized the plan could leave him unable to control the released chakra. The Third Hokage questioned Team 11 about its mission report, and Shisui took the blame for the destruction caused in the battle, leaving Kakashi and Hyuga Kagami grateful for his silence.

  • Hyuga Kagami abandoned his plan to break the Fourth Hokage's Ryumyaku seal with Truth-Seeking Orbs because he might exhaust his chakra and alert nearby villages.
  • The Third Hokage summoned Team 11 and asked whether they had concealed anything in their report.
  • Shisui claimed responsibility for wiping out the Kumogakure ninja and explained that he had concealed the battle's details to hide the Mangekyō Sharingan.
  • The Third Hokage accepted Shisui's explanation, told Team 11 not to discuss the matter again, and offered each member an opportunity to study an advanced ninjutsu.
  • Guy asked Shisui about the battle, Kakashi thanked him for keeping his Mangekyō Sharingan secret, and Hyuga Kagami later thanked Shisui privately.

Ch. 82Uchiha Shinichi

Hyuga Kagami warned Shisui that Danzo’s surveillance signaled he did not fear them, while Uchiha Shinichi’s humiliation and hatred drew the attention of the Masked Man. After confronting Shinichi and demonstrating his intangibility, the Masked Man dragged him into a twisting vortex.

  • Hyuga Kagami told Shisui that Danzo’s Root was following them and urged him to keep a secret.
  • Uchiha Shinichi trained relentlessly outside Konoha to numb himself to his clan’s ridicule after losing to Hyuga Kagami.
  • The Masked Man and Zetsu watched Shinichi, and the Masked Man decided he was a suitable target.
  • The Masked Man appeared behind Shinichi and claimed he could give him what he wanted.
  • Shinichi attacked the Masked Man, but his blade passed through him, and the Masked Man knocked him down.
  • After Shinichi’s fireball failed to stop him, the Masked Man appeared behind him and dragged him into a vortex.

Ch. 83Contract Seal

The Masked Man tried to recruit the battered Uchiha Shinichi by promising him the power to defeat Hyuga Kagami. Meanwhile, Hyuga Kagami studied the Four Symbols Seal, obtained the Contract Seal from the Third Hokage, and began considering how it could relate to the seal on the Ryumyaku.

  • The Masked Man defeated Uchiha Shinichi and tempted him with the promise of power, while Shinichi remained wary and staggered back toward the village.
  • The Masked Man told Zetsu that Shinichi craved power and might awaken his eyes with further stimulation.
  • Hyuga Kagami studied the Four Symbols Seal at home and noticed Root surveillance outside, but decided to avoid provoking Danzo until he had learned the sealing techniques he could access.
  • After three days, Hyuga Kagami returned the Four Symbols Seal Scroll and asked the Third Hokage to let him study the Uzumaki Clan's Sealing Jutsu.
  • The Third Hokage gave Hyuga Kagami the Contract Seal Scroll and ordered him to return it within a month.
  • Hyuga Kagami began studying the Contract Seal and suspected that the Fourth Hokage had used it as part of the Ryumyaku's seal to protect it from attacks through Queen of Roran's bloodline.

Ch. 84Travel

Hyuga Kagami mastered the Contract Seal, secured two months of leave to search for a summoning beast, and left Konoha to investigate the seal on the Ryumyaku. As a Root member followed him, attackers ambushed him for a twenty-five-million-ryo bounty.

  • Hyuga Kagami's teammates told him the peace talks with Kumogakure had collapsed, and he predicted the negotiations would resume because neither village could afford a prolonged war.
  • Hyuga Kagami mastered the Contract Seal and returned its scroll to the Third, who was impressed by how quickly he learned it.
  • Hyuga Kagami asked the Third for permission to travel under the pretense of finding a summoning beast, and received two months of leave.
  • Hyuga Kagami left Konoha to inspect the Fourth Hokage's seal on the Ryumyaku, while a Root member followed him.
  • Attackers bound Hyuga Kagami with a chain and stabbed toward his ribs, announcing they would claim the twenty-five-million-ryo bounty.

Ch. 85Bounty Ninja

Hyuga Kagami captured two Kirigakure Rogue Ninja and learned that Kirigakure was in turmoil, then discovered his Root watcher had treated him as an enemy. That night, a mysterious Magnet Release user ambushed Ding You, who fled toward Hyuga Kagami, unaware that Hyuga Kagami was prepared.

  • Hyuga Kagami tricked two bounty ninja with a Shadow Clone, captured them, and learned at the Mission Center that they were Kirigakure Rogue Ninja worth nearly three million ryo combined.
  • Hyuga Kagami learned about Kirigakure’s civil unrest and defecting ninja, then realized the Root ninja watching him had made no attempt to help during the ambush.
  • Hyuga Kagami camped in the forest while Ding You watched him from a tree and sneered at his apparent lack of vigilance.
  • A bandaged ninja using Magnet Release ambushed Ding You, who guessed the attacker was a Sunagakure Rogue Ninja after Hyuga Kagami’s bounty.
  • Ding You sent ink-wash lions at the attacker and fled toward Hyuga Kagami’s bonfire, believing Hyuga Kagami had not noticed the battle.

Ch. 86Loulan Ruins

Hyuga Kagami exposed and killed Ding You after stopping him from sending a report to Danzo, then traveled to the ruins of Loulan in search of the Ryumyaku. He entered the ancient city, where the Fourth Hokage’s seal still concealed the chakra underground.

  • The Magnet Release ninja attacked Ding You with iron-sand senbon, and Hyuga Kagami questioned him about Danzo’s orders but learned that Root’s curse seal prevented him from revealing information.
  • Ding You sent ink birds to report Hyuga Kagami’s supposed alliance with Sunagakure, but Hyuga Kagami captured them with Magnet Release and the Third Kazekage Human Puppet killed Ding You.
  • Hyuga Kagami brought Ding You’s corpse to a Konoha outpost and told the Chunin there to report that bounty hunters had killed him.
  • Hyuga Kagami traveled through the Land of Rivers and entered the Land of Wind after two days, then spent nearly ten days flying across the desert to find Loulan’s ruins.
  • Hyuga Kagami entered the ruins, noting that the Fourth Hokage’s seal prevented him from sensing the Ryumyaku underground.

Ch. 87Ryumyaku Seal

Hyuga Kagami examined the Fourth Hokage’s seal on the Ryumyaku in the Rōran ruins and concluded he would need a descendant of the Queen of Roran’s lineage nearby to safely break it. Meanwhile, Danzo investigated Ding You’s death and ordered Root to eliminate an innocent Chunin after a brain search left him badly injured.

  • Hyuga Kagami found the Ryumyaku sealed beneath a composite Sealing Jutsu that included the Four Symbols Seal, the Contract Seal, and an unidentified technique he suspected came from Mount Myoboku.
  • Hyuga Kagami judged that he could break the seal, but decided he would need someone descended from the Queen of Roran to help control the Ryumyaku chakra.
  • A Root member reported that Ding You had died from a head wound and that his body contained chakra-nourished iron sand, leading Danzo to suspect Sunagakure’s involvement.
  • Danzo ordered Root to search the brain of the Chunin who had returned Ding You’s body, despite the risks and the possibility of angering the Third Hokage.
  • After the brain search damaged the Chunin and confirmed he had no connection to Hyuga Kagami, Danzo ordered Root to dispose of him.

Ch. 88Commission

Hyuga Kagami hired Kusagakure shinobi to search for the descendants of Queen of Roran, hoping to use the village’s intelligence network to find the nomadic people. In the Land of Water, Sasori defeated the Kaguya Clan head and persuaded Orochimaru to remain with him for a few more days to hunt bloodline-limit shinobi.

  • Hyuga Kagami offered Kusagakure one million ryo to find the descendants of Queen of Roran and hired a squad led by the Jonin Ryūran.
  • Hyuga Kagami learned that Ryūran had a ten-million-ryo bounty and traveled with her squad toward the Land of Wind.
  • Sasori sealed the Kaguya Clan head’s corpse after defeating him with poison and bone spears.
  • Orochimaru arrived and revealed that he had taken a child from a dungeon, while Sasori admitted he wanted to hunt more bloodline-limit shinobi.
  • Orochimaru agreed to stay in the Land of Water with Sasori for a few more days.

Ch. 89The Kind Child

Orochimaru encountered the kind child Haku in the Land of Water and reconsidered taking him as a possible Curse Mark subject. Meanwhile, Hyuga Kagami found the Rōran survivors in the Land of Wind and learned Sunagakure was pressuring them over the Ryumyaku before paying off his Grass ninja guide.

  • Orochimaru killed a bandit who tried to rob him in the troubled Land of Water.
  • Orochimaru met Haku sharing scarce food with stray cats, initially dismissed him as too kind to be a ninja, then wondered if he could bear the Curse Mark's power.
  • Sasori arrived and told Orochimaru that the person he sought had appeared, revealing that he was pursuing a ninja from Konoha.
  • With help from the Grass ninja, Hyuga Kagami located the Rōran survivors, whose caravan numbered only two or three hundred people.
  • Hyuga Kagami learned that Sunagakure was collecting taxes from the Rōran survivors to monitor and pressure them, then gave Ryūran the remainder of the commission payment.

Ch. 90Warning and Suspension

Hyuga Kagami confirmed the last Queen of Rōran’s location and prepared to return to Konoha after learning Sasori was coming. In Konoha, the Third Hokage suspended all of Team 11 from Anbu after Danzo accused them of concealing the truth about Ding You’s death.

  • Long Lan accepted the remaining commission payment and departed with the Grass shinobi and guides, while Hyuga Kagami watched the Rōran survivors and identified the red-haired woman holding an infant as the likely last Queen of Rōran.
  • Hyuga Kagami left the Third Kazekage Human Puppet to secretly follow the survivors, then received Orochimaru’s warning that Sasori had discovered his whereabouts and was heading to the Land of Wind.
  • Hyuga Kagami sent Orochimaru the Anbu intelligence he had gathered in return for the warning.
  • The Third Hokage asked Kakashi, Guy, and Shisui whether Hyuga Kagami could have killed Ding You, and Guy and Kakashi defended him while Shisui kept his suspicions to himself.
  • Danzo called for Team 11 to be suspended, and the Third Hokage suspended the Anbu positions of Hyuga Kagami and the rest of the team.

Ch. 91Shaping

The Third Hokage rejected Danzo’s push to act against the Uchiha but agreed that Shisui posed a serious risk. After returning to Konoha and learning that Team 11 had been suspended, Hyuga Kagami focused on improving his strength and began the Artificial Tailed Beast Plan.

  • The Third Hokage told Danzo not to interfere in the Uchiha matter, while agreeing that Shisui should not remain in the Anbu.
  • Hyuga Kagami returned to Konoha early and learned that he and the other members of Team 11 had been suspended.
  • Hyuga Kagami suspected that the suspension was aimed at Shisui and decided to avoid trouble while the village was occupied with peace negotiations.
  • Hyuga Kagami prepared Purple Mud Glue and began forming a stable spherical shell for his Artificial Tailed Beast.
  • Hyuga Kagami used his Tenseigan to inscribe the formula through the night, completed the shell by dawn, and sealed it in a Scroll.

Ch. 92Sneaking Out of the Village

Hyuga Kagami arranged for Shisui to leave a Shadow Clone disguised as him while he secretly traveled to the ruins of Rōran. He left Konoha under cover and flew toward the Land of Wind, hoping to return within Shisui’s twenty-day limit.

  • Hyuga Kagami asked Shisui whether anyone suspicious had appeared near the Uchiha compound, and Shisui reported that Root shinobi monitoring Uchiha Shinichi had disappeared.
  • Shisui told Hyuga Kagami that Shinichi had been training outside the village and that Danzo and the Uchiha clan head had clashed over the missing Root shinobi.
  • Hyuga Kagami asked Shisui to leave a Shadow Clone disguised as him while he handled a personal matter outside the village, and Shisui agreed to maintain the cover for up to twenty days.
  • Shisui created a Shadow Clone in Hyuga Kagami’s likeness and left, allowing Hyuga Kagami to slip out of Konoha.
  • Hyuga Kagami entered Tenseigan Chakra Mode and flew low through the forest toward the Land of Wind.

Ch. 93Doing Business

Sasori searched the Land of Wind for Hyuga Kagami but found no trace of him, while Kagami crossed several countries to reach the Rōran refugee convoy at Manto Oasis. Disguised, he entered Queen of Roran’s tent to propose a deal and revealed that he wanted the Ryumyaku.

  • Sasori searched towns, black markets, and oases in the Land of Wind for Hyuga Kagami, then headed toward the Land of Rain after coming up empty-handed.
  • Hyuga Kagami traveled through the Land of Fire and the Land of Rivers, then located the Rōran refugee convoy and chose to intercept it at Manto Oasis.
  • Kagami reached Manto Oasis, sealed away the Third Kazekage Human Puppet to recover his strength, and waited until nightfall before approaching Queen of Roran.
  • Kagami slipped into Queen of Roran’s tent and offered to make a deal, while she cautiously shielded her infant and questioned his intentions.
  • Kagami used his Byakugan to discover that Queen of Roran was seriously ill, then told her that he sought the Ryumyaku.

Ch. 94Lifting the Ryumyaku Seal

Hyuga Kagami forced the Queen of Roran to help him with the Ryumyaku, then brought her to the Roran Ruins and began undoing the seal. As the seal neared collapse, he prepared an artificial Tailed Beast shell and watched the Ryumyaku break free.

  • Hyuga Kagami threatened the Queen of Roran and persuaded her to go with him by invoking the danger to her people.
  • Hyuga Kagami took the Queen of Roran from the caravan to the Roran Ruins, where she mourned her homeland.
  • Hyuga Kagami removed the Contract Seal from the Ryumyaku seal, restoring the Queen of Roran's connection to the Ryumyaku.
  • Hyuga Kagami undid the Four Symbols Seal, bringing the Ryumyaku seal to the brink of collapse.
  • Hyuga Kagami summoned the artificial Tailed Beast shell and activated the Tenseigan as he prepared to observe the Ryumyaku breaking free.

Ch. 95Stealing the Ryumyaku

Hyuga Kagami began stealing the Ryumyaku’s chakra with the Purple Mud Glue shell, while Queen of Roran helped calm its power. After the chakra pillar faded and the Ryumyaku was nearly depleted, Hyuga Kagami began sealing the gathered chakra.

  • The Ryumyaku broke free of the Fourth Hokage’s seal, unleashing a violent hurricane and a pillar of chakra from beneath the altar.
  • Hyuga Kagami opened the Purple Mud Glue shell and activated the Chakra Sealing Method to absorb the Ryumyaku’s chakra.
  • Queen of Roran overcame her hesitation and commanded the Ryumyaku to restrain its power, calming the storm and making the chakra easier to absorb.
  • The Purple Mud Glue shell expanded enormously as it consumed the Ryumyaku’s chakra, while Queen of Roran felt her connection to it fading.
  • The Ryumyaku’s chakra pillar disappeared, and Hyuga Kagami activated the shell’s sealing formulas to contain the stolen chakra.

Ch. 96Birth of an Artificial Tailed Beast

Hyuga Kagami sealed the newly formed dragon-shaped artificial Tailed Beast inside himself and escaped Loulan with Queen of Roran. He advised her to move the Rōran survivors to the Land of Rain and offered her five million ryo for the Ryumyaku.

  • The compressed Ryumyaku took the shape of a plump purple dragon, and Hyuga Kagami temporarily sealed the artificial Tailed Beast inside himself.
  • Hyuga Kagami checked the ruins for traces and left with Queen of Roran before Sunagakure's ninja could arrive.
  • Near Manto Oasis, Queen of Roran feared Hyuga Kagami would kill her, but he clarified that he had never planned to silence her that way.
  • Hyuga Kagami warned Queen of Roran that Sunagakure would threaten her people and suggested they flee to the Land of Rain.
  • Hyuga Kagami offered Queen of Roran five million ryo for the Ryumyaku, enough to help the Rōran survivors and pay for her medical care.

Ch. 97Origin of the Ryumyaku

Hyuga Kagami helped Sara’s convoy of Rōran survivors escape Sunagakure’s pursuit while reflecting on the Ryumyaku’s mysterious origins. The Fourth Kazekage learned that the Ryumyaku had been stolen and suspected Konoha.

  • Hyuga Kagami urged Sara to leave immediately and said he would deal with Sunagakure’s pursuers, but could not promise to escort the convoy all the way.
  • Sara revealed that her name was Sara, then returned to the Rōran survivors as their convoy prepared to leave Manto Oasis.
  • Hyuga Kagami used the Third Kazekage Human Puppet to kill the two Sunagakure Genin watching the convoy, then followed the survivors from a distance.
  • Hyuga Kagami reasoned that the Ryumyaku’s original core had come from elsewhere, been damaged, and eventually given rise to a new, ignorant Ryumyaku beneath Loulan.
  • The Fourth Kazekage received news of the Ryumyaku’s theft, and Chiyo blamed Konoha for breaking the Fourth Hokage’s seal and stealing it.

Ch. 98Pure

The Masked Man and Zetsu arranged for Uchiha Yui to be controlled and killed in front of Uchiha Shinichi, hoping to awaken his eyes. As Shinichi cried over Yui, his Three Tomoe Sharingan spun rapidly.

  • Uchiha Yui brought food to Uchiha Shinichi as he trained outside Konoha, and he told her not to visit again.
  • The Masked Man told Zetsu to begin their plan while they watched Shinichi and Yui from afar.
  • After Yui left, an unseen force took control of her body and made her attack the Root ninja monitoring Shinichi.
  • The Root ninja lost control of his own body, and Yui impaled herself on his Kunai as Shinichi arrived.
  • Uchiha Yui died in Shinichi's arms after warning him to be careful, and his Sharingan began spinning rapidly.
  • The Masked Man told Zetsu that an Uchiha's pure heart, whether good or evil, determined their aptitude to awaken their eyes.

Ch. 99Speaking

The Masked Man planned to turn Uchiha Shinichi’s grief and anger into hatred, while Hyuga Kagami continued escorting the Rōran survivors through the Land of Wind as a newly awakened Ryumyaku Jinchuriki. The chapter ended with Hyuga Kagami learning that a four-man Sunagakure squad was following the convoy.

  • The Masked Man and Zetsu watched Shinichi carry Yui’s corpse and discussed how Danzo’s refusal to surrender the Root ninja would deepen Shinichi’s hatred.
  • The Masked Man said he would wait for Shinichi to hate Danzo, Konoha, and the Uchiha, hoping he would awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan.
  • Hyuga Kagami calculated that he had ten days left on his journey and expected to escort the Rōran survivors into the Land of Rain within three more days.
  • Hyuga Kagami completed the fusion sealing ritual and became a Ryumyaku Jinchuriki, discovering that Ryumyaku chakra was potent, self-healing, and easy to tame.
  • Hyuga Kagami infused the Third Kazekage Human Puppet with Tenseigan chakra, giving it independent consciousness and the ability to speak.
  • The Third Kazekage Human Puppet reported that a four-man Sunagakure squad was following the convoy.

Ch. 100Escort

Hyuga Kagami distracted Sunagakure’s search teams to protect the fleeing Rōran survivors, then escorted them toward the Land of Rain. When Sunagakure’s pursuers caught up again, he prepared to fight them.

  • Hyuga Kagami sent the Third Kazekage Human Puppet ahead to follow the caravan, then confronted a Sunagakure squad and drew nearby search teams into pursuit.
  • Hyuga Kagami led nearly forty or fifty Sunagakure ninjas across the desert, disrupting their search sectors before escaping with Body Flicker Technique and Rotation.
  • Hyuga Kagami used up much of his converted Ryumyaku chakra and, after recovering, detoured to rejoin the Rōran survivors’ caravan.
  • Two days later, the caravan crossed out of the Land of Wind and entered a Gobi desert near the Land of Rain.
  • The Third Kazekage Human Puppet warned Hyuga Kagami that Sunagakure’s pursuers had caught up, and Hyuga Kagami prepared to attack them.
