Inside the lounge of the Hokage's Office, an unfolded blank scroll lay on the floor before Shin. As he formed hand seals and cast the technique, intricate, profound black patterns slowly emerged across the scroll, forming a circle around the character for "fire" at its center.
Ninjutsu scrolls were troublesome to inscribe. Besides being proficient in Sealing Jutsu, one also needed to be sufficiently skilled with the ninjutsu being recorded.
Though convenient to use, they had never been capable of mass production. Moreover, they went against the very principles of ninja; excessive reliance on them would make ninja complacent.
"Kamado," Shin called softly.
Kamado immediately appeared using the Body Flicker Technique.
Shin handed him the completed Fire Release scroll and told him to go outside and test it.
The principle behind a ninjutsu scroll was to predetermine the Chakra circulation route, then use the user's own Chakra to release the technique.
It sounded difficult, but Shin had learned it without spending much time studying it.
This was merely one of his experiments. His next step was to inscribe ninjutsu onto the human body, allowing a person to cast ninjutsu directly by activating Chakra, without needing hand seals.
The techniques inscribed could be ordinary elemental releases or special secret techniques.
The difference from scrolls was that inscriptions on the human body had to match the person's Chakra nature, but they could be used repeatedly.
The techniques inscribed on scrolls, meanwhile, were single-use but faced few restrictions. Even without Chakra of a particular nature, one could still cast ninjutsu of that nature.
Kamado soon returned, still holding the scroll. The character for "fire" upon it had vanished.
"Lord Shin, the ninjutsu was very powerful!" Kamado reported.
Shin regarded the scroll in his hand thoughtfully.
"Kamado."
"Lord Shin!"
