The bonfire was doused, and the squad members each found a place to rest. Su Xiao sat beside the fire and instinctively reached for a cigarette, but ultimately decided against it.
Feeding A'Mu wasn't a simple matter. Fortunately, Baja had caught five spotted deer and three warthogs, which were cooked into a hearty meal for A'Mu. He wouldn't feel too hungry for the next couple of days.
After clearing away the dying fire, Su Xiao spread a moisture-proof mat on the ground and lay down. The residual warmth of the ground gradually seeped into his back. Apparently finding the mat comfortable, Bubu Wang came over as well, curled into a ball, and fell asleep beside Su Xiao.
Su Xiao stared at the pitch-black ceiling as he began refining his plans for what came next.
There were still fifty hours before the brand could be removed—in other words, a little over two days. The Ranger Squad was unlikely to clear out any more Undead tonight, leaving around forty hours.
By tomorrow morning, the Ranger Squad would be able to complete the side mission. After that, they would head to the Contractor Camp and accept their next mission.
From his oblique probing, Su Xiao had basically learned the location of the Contractor Camp. He couldn't ask for its exact position, as that would expose his identity directly.
Originally, Su Xiao had planned to return to the Contractor Camp with the Ranger Squad, accept the second mission, then leave the camp before removing the brand.
Just now, Doro had begun to suspect him. It was a suspicion without any basis. Although she hadn't managed to probe anything out of him, the seed of distrust had already been planted.
Therefore, Su Xiao decided to remove the brand before returning to the Contractor Camp.
