Sitting on the single bed in the cell, Su Xiao looked around. The light was somewhat dim, but still bright enough to see by.
On the short table beside him sat a half-eaten sandwich and a dagger nailed to the tabletop. Several adult books were piled together, and a pocket watch hung on the wall. There were splattered bloodstains on the nearby wall, as if someone had been brutally beaten there.
An old mechanical printer was running. A small glass bottle was embedded in its top, containing a semisolid energy resembling iron filings.
Judging from the situation, Su Xiao concluded that the technological level of this world was far behind the modern era, though electricity already existed. As for computers, mobile phones, and other such technology, he could forget about them.
Electricity in this world probably wasn't abundant. The lights outside the cell were illuminated by some kind of gas burning inside them. They flickered erratically and gave off a faint scorched smell.
"Three of my colleagues have already been beaten into taking leave by you. They're still recovering at home. Consider it mercy for our sake—could you... leave?"
The Strong Man outside the cell spoke words completely at odds with his physique. Judging from the dried blood on his cuffs and the scars on his hands and face, he was by no means a good man. One of the benefits of becoming stronger was being able to make thugs like this speak politely.
"Quiet. I'll leave in half an hour."
"Really? Then I'll wait half an hour."
The Strong Man walked away reluctantly. The cell door remained open the entire time, ready for Su Xiao to leave whenever he wished.
