The cramped, damp prison cell was filled with the stench of sweat mingled with blood, while snores came from the cell next door.
Su Xiao could leave at any time, but he did not. His previous plan had two branches: 1. If the innkeeper found a local underworld figure, he would use that person to contact the local Royal Navy. 2. If the innkeeper was a law-abiding citizen, he would first be detained by the navy, then contact the naval higher-ups through the naval soldiers guarding the prison.
One should not underestimate the low-ranking sailors working in prisons. They were very different from other low-ranking sailors. Some pirates imprisoned there would occasionally provide information about their pirate crews to avoid being hanged.
For example, whether the pirate crew was wealthy, whether it had plundered the Empire's merchant ships, when it had done so, and where the stolen goods were.
To mid-ranking naval officers, the port prison was a good place to earn medals. If a pirate happened to provide secrets about one of the four great pirates, the mid-ranking officer who learned of it would be set for life. A promotion was right before his eyes.
For that reason, the low-ranking sailors guarding the prison could all meet trusted aides of mid-ranking officers, preventing confidential information from being passed through too many hands, which might lead to leaks and cause someone else to take the credit.

"Cough."

"Rum? Roast turkey? Meat pie?"
The sailor outside the cell asked in a low voice. He glanced sidelong
