At first, the Dark Moon faction had not known that the spores came from the Abyss. Instead, they had regarded them as a rare treasure, because these Abyss spores possessed none of the aggressive traits usually associated with darkness, parasitism, or erosion. They had three characteristics.
1. Attachment.
2. Energy storage.
3. Passive symbiosis.
The attachment trait was simple. These Abyss spores could cling to any substance without being aggressive. They could also store almost any kind of bodily energy with very little loss. If 100 points of bodily energy were stored inside them, only about 0.5 to 0.8 points would be lost each day.
What truly allowed these Abyss spores to multiply on a massive scale was their "passive symbiosis" trait. Passive symbiosis meant that once someone became a host of the spores, the spores would do everything they could to extend the host's life whenever the host neared death.
If a host had half his skull shattered or all his vital organs, such as his heart, destroyed, the Abyss spores would use mimicry to imitate biological tissue, forming a brain, heart, and other organs and helping the host continue living normally.
