History
Destruction and restoration
The original Yang Family was massacred by the Xiang Family, which seized the family’s Spirit Fields and former residence. Yang Shi survived as its sole heir, initially living as an injured beggar with no Spiritual Root 2 18.
Yang Genshuo became the family’s guiding Old Ancestor through the ancestral hall. He directed Yang Shi to shelter Jiang Xiaobai, whose Five-Element Spiritual Root and Earth-grade Wood affinity made her vital to the clan’s future cultivation bloodline 4. Yang Shi and Jiang Xiaobai later married in an unusually large Qingshi County wedding, though the Xiang Family did not recognize Yang Shi as the surviving Yang heir 35.
The rebuilding family accumulated Spirit Fields, Spirit Crops, formations, talismans, Spirit Beasts, and cultivation techniques. Its Grain-abstinence Biscuit trade became a major source of resources and Spirit Stones 18 55.
Revenge against the Xiang Family
The Yang Family reclaimed the Xiang ancestral residence and established the Nine-Palace Li-Fire Array there, turning the former Xiang territory into a secure base 78. Yang Shi ultimately led Yang Fu and Yang Fushuo in eliminating the Xiang Family in the Great Nai capital, avenging the massacre that had defined his life 170.
After the battle, Yang Shi declared that the Yang Family’s blood feud had been avenged and redefined himself as the Patriarch of the Yang Immortal Clan rather than merely a survivor seeking vengeance 170. The Thunderclap Sword rejected him afterward because of the mortal bloodshed involved, underscoring the cost of the clan’s revenge 170.
Expansion beyond the Great Nai Dynasty
The family established additional territory in the Blazing Sun Dynasty, where Huzi managed an estate near Red Sun City with five acres of Spirit Fields and a Board Game Tea House 102. The family later obtained Silver Brocade Lake on the Spirit Vast Continent, a prosperous stronghold with Spirit Fields, Silver Brocade Fish, and a Grade Two Earth Crystal Ore vein 184 196.
The Yang Family’s expansion was supported by its descendants’ admission into major sects, especially the Cloud Concealment Spirit Sect, Truefire Sect, and Heavenly Mystery Sect 101 230. Its wealth, alchemy, spiritual agriculture, artifact refining, beast taming, formations, military development, and trade gradually elevated it from a local household into a trans-dynastic power.
The Feng Family alliance
Yang Feng, the son of Feng Xun and Misha Zi, was raised within the Yang Family despite his connection to the powerful Feng Family 284. He later rejected Feng Yi’s attempts to define him solely through bloodline, maintaining that the Yang Family was his true home because it had raised and supported him 441.
Yang Feng eventually became Patriarch of the Feng Family, while Yang Qiangwei became its Matriarch. Their takeover brought the Feng Family under Yang influence and created a political alliance between the Great Nai Empire and the Sky Garden Dynasty 541 542.
Later fragmentation
Following Yang Genshuo’s century-long seclusion, the family’s population grew dramatically, but its unity weakened. Yang Qianglin and Yang Qiangyuan’s descendants formed a large political interest group: roughly ninety of 105 newly recorded Yang Family members descended from their branches 617.
Yang Genshuo also discovered descendants who had never been taught to believe in him and were therefore absent from his perception. He publicly returned through Divine Manifestation during an ancestral worship ceremony to restore the family’s faith and authority 637.
Ancestral System
The Yang Family’s defining institution is its relationship with Yang Genshuo, its Old Ancestor.
- Descendants conduct annual ancestral rites, offering Spirit Food, crops, pills, artifacts, techniques, and other resources in exchange for blessings and rewards 4 73 199.
- Offerings can be redistributed between descendants, allowing distant branches to function as a long-range supply network 73.
- Yang Genshuo grants blessings such as Spirit Imbuing, Spirit Gathering, Absorption, Vitality, Calm the Heart, and Heavenly Veiling 54 56 61 82 237.
- The family accumulates Incense Value through worship, breakthroughs, births, devotion, and major accomplishments 54 56 237.
- Family Merit unlocks Miracles, including the ability to borrow descendants’ abilities and transmit items across immense distances through Flying Letter 355 405.
- The ancestral system cannot normally transmit living beings; this prevented the immediate transfer of the sentient Ruyi Illusory Sword and Myriad Transformation Spirit Robe 388.
