A Stopgap Measure
I didn't dare touch the stone coffin right away. From what I had just seen and heard, if I broke the wrong thing, my old disciple's spiritual body and Dao body would both perish. This ancient stone coffin was extremely strange. The seal above had bound the spiritual body, while the transparent central pillar below contained the Dao body. Normally, when an immortal's Dao body recovered, it would synchronize with the spiritual body. The two were inseparable, recovering together in unison!
But now, a stone coffin had cut straight through the middle, forcibly severing the connection between the Dao body and the spiritual body. That meant I had to destroy the coffin—or sever it somehow—before the two could become one again and I could rescue my old disciple.
