Self-Abuse

A tribulation began as space's self-protective measure—a mechanism that formed to prevent individuals who challenged it from continuously damaging it. Every place had its own variations, so the immortals simply called it a tribulation.

Tribulations were the mortal enemies of all immortals. They ranged from the smallest tribulation of encountering trouble, which broke through knots in the heart, to ever-higher levels. The higher the tribulation, the more it proved that one's strength had begun challenging the entire spatial environment. After surpassing oneself and breaking through the knots in one's heart, if one still wished to keep ascending, one either needed the ability to overwhelm the entire environment or would be crushed alive on the path of defying Heaven!

A small world had its Heaven, and a large world had its Heaven as well. The Ancient God Realm likewise had its own Heaven, so when had tribulations ever not existed? They had always existed. Even their forms were largely similar; only their power changed accordingly with the size of the world.

They always came in the direction of compliance and departed in the direction of defiance. Charging in meant facing the tribulation, and passing it meant reaching another stage! Those who failed were carried away in a single wave, without even a scrap of themselves left behind.

Of course, the more powerful one was, the sooner the tribulation arrived and the greater its might. This had never been in doubt. I had already experienced it all over Earth, so although I was shocked now, I did not lose my composure. The tribulation descending now had only been triggered because the excessive condensation of energy had caused unusual movements in the sky and drawn down tribulation lightning. As far as I was concerned, tribulation lightning was the easiest kind to withstand.
