The Desolate City Spirit Hall that had gathered the Godslayer Assassins was no longer what it used to be. At the very least, it did not fall behind when facing the Church's top forces.
Now that the Church wanted to dismantle us, it would be difficult for them to accomplish it through a decapitation operation, at least. In the end, they could only take the path of total war.
Total war appeared to be a civil war within the Church, but in reality, it was a contest between the Church and the Guild. The two sides had accumulated deep grudges, and returning to their former positions was impossible. Unless one side completely changed allegiance, sooner or later they would fight until one side lived and the other died.
The war began soon afterward. The Church's holy army and its Servants' army came from the west, while the New Church and the Guild's combined forces advanced from the east to meet them.
The Church's army consisted of holy soldiers drafted from various cities. Among them were six five-hundred-man formations of Spirit Hall holy soldiers, as well as a thousand-man formation of Temple holy soldiers from a giant city serving as the main force, for a total of more than four thousand people.
The New Church's army, led by Dier, had more than a thousand holy soldiers, along with six thousand Guild members mixed into its ranks, for a total of more than seven thousand people.
The two sides met near Twin Tower Mountain outside the Desolate City.
The Guild army had all donned clothing bearing the New Church's insignia, so even though they were a ragtag mob, they could be recognized at a glance.
