"Is this... the truth behind that prophecy?" Neuvillette narrowed his eyes slightly.
He glanced at Furina. "So you found a substitute to take your place as the Hydro Archon, while you worked behind the scenes to quietly find a way to resolve the prophecy?"
"Yes."
Focalors nodded and gazed at Furina affectionately. "But you're wrong, Neuvillette. Furina was never my substitute. She is another version of me! She is me—the part of me that belongs to humanity. Now, she is an independent individual in her own right. Just like my little sister..."
"Me in the mirror..." Furina felt as if her mind had turned into a tangled mess.
Yet Focalors admitted that, long ago, Focalors, the second Hydro Archon, had received the Divine Seat of the Hydro Archon from Egeria.
She had then pondered... just what she could do to resolve the prophecy.
How could she save Fontaine?
So she split herself in two.
Her physical body and humanity formed a girl named Furina.
She was a blank slate—the ideal human Focalors envisioned. Focalors had cursed her. As long as Focalors did not die, Furina would never die either.
And Focalors herself.
She was the concentration of spirit and divinity.
She was the aspect of the Hydro Archon named Focalors.
From then on, she hid herself within the Instrument of Judgment.
She could neither see the light of day nor leave.
Only during trials could she use it to learn a little about the outside world.
It helped her pass the time.
"My plan was to satisfy the prophecy while deceiving the Heavenly Principles and successfully saving Fontaine. For that purpose, I had Furina serve as the Hydro Archon in the public eye, standing beneath the spotlight and endlessly, endlessly, without a moment's pause, playing the god in everyone's hearts."
